Minutes - 11/20/2003 - Safety Committee SAC- MIN- / / - o - 4Q0V3 VILLAGE OF OAK BROOK EMPLOYEE SAFETY COMMITTEE Minutes NOVEMBER 20, 2003 UNOFFICIAL UNTIL APPROVED AS WRITTEN x OR AS AMENDED ON January 15, 2004 1. CALL MEETING TO ORDER: The Employee Safety Committee meeting was called to order at 9:15 a.m. in the Upper Level Conference Room with the following representatives PRESENT: David Zima, Administration, Finance & Engineering Departments Susan Schwartz, Library Norm Nemec, Police Department Greg Krob, Sports Core Departments Richard B. Boehm, Village Manager ABSENT: Fire Department Public Works Department Joyce Resh, Secretary II. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Motion by Susan Schwartz, seconded by David Zima, to approve the minutes of the Employee Safety Committee meeting of September 18, 2003 as submitted. VOICE VOTE: Motion carried. Minutes are to be dated and posted in respective departments. III. DISCUSSION OF INCIDENTS: The incident of a police officer's injury to his right calf while participating in defensive tactics training was discussed in detail noting that proper safety precautions were taken during the training. IV. DEPARTMENTAL SAFETY INSPECTION REPORTS: Departmental Safety Inspection Reports were discussed. V. TRAINING IDEAS: David Zima suggested the use of IRMA training videos for various department needs. An IRMA Library listing will be obtained and distributed to each department. VI. DISCUSSION OF SAFETY SUGGESTIONS: Police squads are bumping into the dumpster located in the Police Sally Port while backing out of parking spaces. It was suggested to review the location of the dumpster. EMPLOYEE SAFETY COMMITTEE Page 1 of 2 November 20, 2003 Minutes It was noted that police officers need to turn off their vehicles when parked in the Police Sally Port, as a running vehicle's fumes enter the building through the HVAC exhaust system. More entranceway floor runners are needed at the entry doors as well as in the Police bonding area to prevent slips and falls. VII. GENERAL DISCUSSION: The third quarter IRMA Membership Loss Report was discussed. VIII. ADJOURNMENT: Motion by Norm Nemec, seconded by Susan Schwartz, to adjourn the meeting at 10:00 a.m. ATTEST: Richard B.
