Minutes - 03/18/2004 - Safety Committee VILLAGE OF OAK BROOK EMPLOYEE SAFETY COMMITTEE Minutes MARCH 18, 2004 UNOFFICIAL UNTIL APPROVED AS WRITTEN x OR AS AMENDED ON May 27, 2004 I. CALL MEETING TO ORDER: The Employee Safety Committee meeting was called to order at 9:10 a.m. in the Upper Level Conference Room with the following representatives PRESENT: David Zima, Administration, Finance Departments Don Hastings, Community Development& Information Services/Purchasing&Engineering Departments Brian Bitterlin,Fire Department Marilyn Hanson, Library Jay Yunker, Public Works Department Greg Krob, Sports Core Departments (arrived 9:15 a.m.) Jeffrey P. Moline, Assistant Village Manager Joyce Resh, Secretary ABSENT: Police Department Assistant Village Manager Moline announced that the Safety Committee will now have representatives from the Engineering, Information Services/Purchasing and Community Development departments and welcomed Don Hasting to the meeting. II. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Motion by David Zima, seconded by Jay Yunker, to approve the minutes of the Employee Safety Committee meeting of January 14, 2004 as submitted. VOICE VOTE: Motion carried. Minutes are to be dated and posted in respective departments. III. DISCUSSION OF INCIDENTS: Representative Yunker discussed the incident of damage to a private vehicle caused during snow plowing noting that the snow plow driver should have driven more safely and left more room for maneuvering. Assistant Village Manager Moline noted that this incident was determined to be avoidable by a vote of 3-0. The incident of damage to a Village vehicle while parked on a residential street while Village employees were working at a house was discussed. Although several construction workers in the area were questioned, no one witnessed the incident. Assistant Village Manager Moline noted that this hit-and-run incident was determined unavoidable. EMPLOYEE SAFETY COMMITTEE Page 1 of 2 March 18, 2004 Minutes Assistant Village Manager Moline noted that the incident of a police officer who slipped exiting his squad was determined to be unavoidable; but since no Police Department representative is present at this meeting, this incident will be carried over to the next Committee meeting for discussion. Representative Bitterlin discussed the incident of a public safety officer's injury while stepping down from the rear of a fire truck noting that it was the only place to step and, perhaps, it could be prevented by replacing the treads on the step. Public Works Representative Yunker noted that there is a friction tape which can be installed on the treads. IV. DEPARTMENTAL SAFETY INSPECTION REPORTS: Assistant Village Manager Moline noted that eye-wash stations have been installed in the Police Department. V. TRAINING IDEAS: None. VI. DISCUSSION OF SAFETY SUGGESTIONS: None. VII. GENERAL DISCUSSION: No Business. VIII.
