AN ORDINANCE CREATING THE Qfi
OFFICE OF "VILLAGE MANAGER", 1_4„
AND PRESCRIBING THE DUTIES THEREOF _1
BE IT ORDAINED by the President and Board of Trustees of the
Village of Oak Brook, DuPage County, Illinois :
Section 1. There is hereby created the office of VILLAGE
MANAGER, an executive office of the Village of Oak Brook.
Section 2. The Village Manager shall be appointed by the
President, by and with the consent of the Board of Trustees , -and
shall be the direct representative of the corporate authorities
in the transaction of all Village business and in all matters
concerning the citizens of the Village and shall have such specific
duties as are assigned to him from time to time by the said corporate
authorities.
Section 3. Before taking office the Village Manager shall
furnish a fidelity bond in the amount of $150,000.00 , conditioned
upon the faithful performance of his duties with an insurance
corporation satisfactory to the Village and licensed to do business
in the State of Illinois as surety. Such bond shall be filed with
the Clerk after being approved by the President and Board of Trustees.
Section 4. It shall be the duty and responsibility of the
Village Manager to supervise and coordinate the work of all the
departments of the Village government and to report directly to
the President and Board of Trustees.
Section 5. The Village Manager shall have the responsibility
for the hiring and discharge of all Village employees (other than
those under the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners or other
tenure of office laws) except those department heads reporting
directly to the Board of Trustees, in which case he shall recommend
on the hiring and discharge of said department heads to the Presi-
dent and Board of Trustees.
Section 6. As representative of the corporate authorities of
the Village, the Village Manager shall have the power to direct or
to stop any local improvements or public work in the Village if
direction is required or if the work is being carried out in an
improper manner. The Village Manager is to receive all complaints,
suggestions, requests, applications and petitions and other corres-
pondence or communications directed to the corporate authorities
and whenever possible, is directed to take action immediately to
adjust matters which do not require official action of the said
corporate authorities . The Village Manager is responsible for the
maintenance and upkeep of the Village Hall and all Village owned
real estate.
Section 7. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect
from and after its passage and approval according to law.
