OAK BROOK, ILLINOIS 60521-2255
August 17, 1989 312990-3000
Kw-M TO: Village President & Board of Trustees
FROM: Stephen Berley, Village manager
Robert Nielsen, Fire Chief
SUBJECT: modifications to Village's Fair Labor Standards Act Policy
RECOMMENDATION: That the Village classify the Fire Captain position as
exempt with respect to FLSA Standards
The Village Board, at its meeting of December 16, 1986, approved a listing of
policies for the Village of Oak Brook so as to be in compliance with the Fair
Labor Standards Act including listing specific Village personnel who were
determined to be exempt with respect to F%,SA Standards.
Since the Village has recently created the position of Fire Department
Captain, it is appropriate for the Village Board to include the above position
as exempt according to the Fair .Labor Standards Act.
Therefore we recommend, based upon a review of the Fire Captain's duties, that
the Board approve the Fire Captain position as being exempt under FLSA.
Respectfully submitted,
Stephen Ber ey
Village manager
