Regular Board of Trustees Meeting
of
October 13, 2015
SUBJECT: Readopting the Mission, Vision, and Value Statements of the Village of Oak
Brook
FROM: Sharon Dangles, AVM/Finance Director
BUDGET SOURCE/BUDGET IMPACT: N/A
RECOMMENDED MOTION: I move to approve Ordinance 2015-BD-BOT-EX-S-1436,
Readopting the Mission, Vision, and Value Statements of the Village of Oak Brook.
Background/History:
On June 17, 2015, the Village Board and Department Directors met for a strategic planning
session. It was suggested at that meeting to update the Village's Mission and Vision statements
from 2003, which is displayed in the Village's budget document. Each statement—a mission
statement, a vision statement and a values statement—has its own distinct function in the
strategic planning process.
1. A mission statement explains our reason for existence. It describes what the Village
does and its overall intention. The mission statement supports the vision and serves to
communicate purpose and direction to employees, customers, vendors, citizens, and the
business community.
2. A vision statement describes how the organization would appear in the future that we
would like to achieve (5, 10, 15 years from now). A vision statement should challenge
and inspire employees and the entire community.
3. A values statement describes what the organization believes in and how it will behave.
The Village Board recommended staff reach out to the Homeowner's Association for feedback
on the Mission, Vision, and Value Statements of the Village of Oak Brook. We received
comments to add a statement about the educational opportunities, which we incorporated into the
attached document.
Recommendation: Approve Ordinance 2015-BD-BOT-EX-S-1436, Readopting the
Mission,Vision and Value Statements of the Village of Oak Brook.
