WHEREAS, the Department of Transportation of the State of
Illinois, acting under the authority conferred on it by Section B -101
of the Illinois Highway Code has on March 17, 1965 designated Federal
Aid -Route 102 (S.B.I. Rte. 54 - I11. Rte. 83) from St. Charles Road
aAd extending in a southerly direction for a distance of approximately
12.85 miles to the Atchison, Topeka 6 Santa Fe Railway grade separation
structure, and
WHEREAS, Illinois Route 83 was declared a freeway and is governed
under Illinois Freeway Law which is described in Chapter 121, Article 8,
Paragraph 201 -1 of the Road P, Bridge Law of Illinois, and
WHEREAS, the Department of Transportation of the State of Illinois
did prepare a report entitled "Illinois Rte. 83 Economic Study" dated
November 1971, and
WHEREAS, the Mobility Study Unit of said Department, conducted a
public meeting on April 18, 1972 with representatives of all munici-
palities along Rte. 83 to review its findings prior to any action being
taken, and
WHEREAS the Department of Transportation of the State of Illinois
did request from the corporate authorities of all municipalities
endorsement of one of the three alternative plans for Rte. 83 which
would provide for its development as either an arterial highway, a
freeway, or an expressway, and
WHEREAS, all municipalities did submit the comments and recommen-
dations to the Department of Transportation of the State of Illinois
in June of 1972, and
WHEREAS, Illinois Rte. 83 as it extends through DuPage County is
an extremely important, necessary and vital north /south arterial highway,
and

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, by the President and Board of Trustees
of the Village of Oak Brook, DuPage County, Illinois, that the Department
of Transportation of the State of Illinois activate the improvement of
Rte. 83 from Interstate 90 to Interstate 55 to a number 1 priority
project, and
BE IT. FURTHER RESOLVED, by the President and Board of Trustees
of the Village of Oak Brook, DuPage County, Illinois, that the
Department of Transportation of the State of Illinois proceed with the
improvement of Rte. 83 from Interstate 90 to Interstate SS without
further unnecessary delay.
BE IT STILL FURTHER RESOLVED, that certified copies of this
resolution be distributed to Governor Daniel Walker, Mr. Langhorne Bond,
Secretary of the Department of Transportation and Mr. Sigmund C. Ziejewski,
Regional Transportation Engineer, Division of Highways. .
