R-835 - 02/25/2003 - BOARD - ResolutionsRESOLUTION 2003 -BD- AFC -R- 835 A RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING AN AD HOC COMMITTEE FOR THE PURPOSE OF PLANNING AND COORDINATING THE 2003 OAK BROOK AUTUMN FESTIVAL HEREAS, one of Oak Brook's great strengths is the ethnic and cultural diversity of its citizens, and, WHEREAS, from 1993 to 1995, the Butler Elementary School District 53 and its PTA organizations have recognized Oak Brook's diversity by sponsoring an annual "Ethnic Fest" each Spring, offering District 53 students and their families the opportunity to experience the food, art, music and dance of some �of the many cultures represented in Oak Brook, and WHEREAS, the organizers of the District 53 Ethnic Fest concluded that the event had grown to the limits of the District's facilities and that it had the potential to continue to grow into a significant community event for Oak Brook; and WHEREAS, officials of District 53 and its PTA organizations suggested that the Village consider hostingjand co- sponsoring, with other governmental units, this annual event, which the Village has undertaken since 1996; and WHEREAS, on March 9, 1999, the name of the event was changed to Oak Brook Autumn Festival to attracts a broader audience, and WHEREAS, each year since 1996, the Village Board has established an ad hoc committee of Oak Brook residents and corporate residents for the purpose of planning and coordinating the event, and WHEREAS, the most recently formed committee has recommended that an autumn festiIval be held in 2003, and WHEREAS, the Village Board has concurred with the committee's recommendation and ihas set October 15, 2003 as the date for the 2003 Oak Brook Autumn Festival, and WHEREAS, the Board continues to support the vision for the Oak Brook Autumn Festival as expressed in 1996, to wit The community of Oak Brook is a microcosm of the World. Community spirit Is reflected in the business, educational, recreational, social and spiritual endeavors of its residents. The Oak Brook Autumn Festival will promote the best of our roots, customs and traditions in a day of celebration of unity, respect and friendship." I NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE PRESIDENT AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE VILLAGE OF OAK BROOK, DU PAGE AND COOK COUNTIES, ILLINOIS as follows- Section 1 That there is hereby created an ad hoc committee for the purpose of planning and coordinating the 2003 Oak Brook Autumn Festival Said committee shall be known as the "2003 Autumn Festival Committee" and shall consist of sixteen (16) members appointed by the Village President, with the consent i Resolution 2003 -BD- AFC -R -835 Establishing Ad Hoc Committee For 2003 International Autumn Festival, Page 2 1 of the Village Trustees The Committee shall be composed of (a) A Trustee of the Village of Oak Brook, who shall serve as Chairman b) C) d) e) (f) I(9) l (h) U) i Se (a) (b) (c) (d) I A representative of the Oak Brook Civic Association. A representative of the Butler School PTA A representative of the Brook Forest School PTA A representative of the Oak Brook Women's Club An Oak Brook resident who resides in Downers Grove School Districts 58 and 9�9 An Oak Brook resident who resides in Elmhurst Unit School District 205. An Oak Brook resident who resides in of Salt Creek School District 48 and Willo, High School District 48 and 88 Seven Oak Brook residents at large. A representative from the commercial sector of the Village of Oak Brook 2* That the Committee shall have and exercise the following powers and duties: To plan, coordinate, publicize, and execute the 2003 Oak Brook Autumn Festival. To encourage the widest possible participation in the Autumn Festival by resider organizations, institutions and businesses within the Village To report regularly to the Village Board on its progress and the status of its effort To prepare a comprehensive budget for the Autumn Festival, which budget shall subject to the approval of the Village Board. To evaluate the success of the Autumn Festival and to make recommendations concerning future events. rook rs, clubs, be �(f) To form such subcommittees of its members as the Committee deems necessary' and desirable for the efficient and timely conduct of its business, and to assign to such subcommittees any function or power provided herein.
