WHEREAS, Officer John R. Janik, a member of the Oak-
brook Police Department and a qualified expert on the use of
tear gas equipment, was requested by the Villa Park Police De-
partment on January 7, 19670 to assist them in the apprehension
of a dangerous person who had barricaded himself in a residence
with a large number of guns and ammunition; and
WHEREAS, the subject had made various threats on the
Lives of police officers and nusnrous other persons in the area;
and
WHEREAS, pursuant to the request of the Villa Park
Police,Department for assistance Officer Janik proceeded to the
scene where' with the use of the tear gas equipment aforesaid
and with great personal risk on his part, he apprehended the
subject aforementioned; and
WHEREAS, the conduct of Officer Janik has brought
credit to the Oakbrook Police Department, the police profession
in general, and exemplifies the.kio4 of conduct that makes the
citizens of Oakbrook appreciative and pfoud of their police
department; and .
WHEREAS, the President and the Board of Trustees of the
Village of Oakbrook are of the opinion that such creditable service
above and beyond the call of duty should not be unrecognized;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the President and
Board of Trustees of the Village of Oakbrook that the said Officer
John R. Janik be and he is hereby commanded for bravery and
exemplary conduct above and beyond the call of duty.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the President and Board of
Trustees do hereby express their appreciation and the appreciation
of the citizens of Oakbrook for Such extraordinary service•
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a certified copy of these
