WHEREAS, the Village of Oak Brook desires to provide a special
recognition of the 200th Birthday of our great nation; and
WHEREAS, the Village of Oak Brook desires to present future
generations with a living gift in recognition of the Bicentennial
celebration; and
WHEREAS, the Village of Oak Brook desires to have the gift en-
hance the uniqueness and visual aspects of its natural landscape.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the President and Board of
Trustees of the Village of Oak Brook that the Columnar English Oak
(Quercus Robur fastigiate) be designated to be the Bicentennial Tree
of Oak Brook, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the planting of the Columnar English
Oak in appropriate and conspicuous places by any and all property owners
be commeneed in 1976, and,
BE IT STILL FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be
spread upon the official records and proceedings of the Village of Oak
Brook so as to mark our nation's 200 year history.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the President and Board of Trustees of
the Village of Oak Brook, DuPage County, Illinois, this 13th day of
April, 1976.

SUBJECT: Columnar English Oak

Gentlemen:
.Mr. John Ryan, a landscape architect from Michael Ives and
Associates has provided me with the following information about
the Columnar English O±Lk:
1. The tree has been shaped by man and is native to Europe and
Africa..
2. The Columnar English Oak has no fail coloring.
3. The principli use of the Columnar Oak is that of an accent
or border tree and it is not necessarily utilized in a general
tree planting landscape program.
4. The approximate height of a mature Columnar Oak is 30 feet.
S. The primary growth zone of the Columnar Oak is Zone 5. In
Illinois Zone S would not include the metro olitan area which
is Zone 4. (Source: Wyman, Arnold Arboretum
I have attached photographs of the Columnar English Oak from
specimens I have located in Elmhurst.
