R-909 - 05/24/2005 - GOVERNMENT - ResolutionsRESOLUTION 2005- GL -FD -R -909 A RESOLUTION IN OPPOSITION TO LEGISLATION RELATIVE TO FIRE DEPARTMENT PERSONNEL SERVING IN PUBLIC OFFICE WHEREAS, the General Assembly of the State of Illinois has recently passed legislation which allows members of a municipal fire department to become elected or appointed officials in the municipality in which they are employed, and I WHEREAS, the passage of this legislation, entitled House Bill 1338, creates serious conflicts of interest by ignoring the concern of an individual serving both as employee and employer and also in relation to budget issues, labor negotiations or allocation of resources; and WHEREAS, the Village President and Board of Trustees find that the interests of the Village of Oak Brook would be best served by opposition to House Bill 1338. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the President and Board of Trustees of the Village of Oak Brook, DuPage and Cook Counties, Illinois, as follows: 1 Section 1 That the Village President and Board of Trustees for the Village of Oak Brook hereby express their collective opposition to House Bill 1338, passed by the General Assembly of the State of Illinois, allowing municipal firefighters to become elected or appointed officials in the municipality in which they are employed. Section 2 The Village President and Board of Trustees urge Illinois Governor Rod Blago�evich to veto House Bill 1338 to avoid serious conflicts of interests which will be created by allowing members of a municipal fire department to serve in public office in the municipality in which they are employed Section 3. All resolutions or parts of resolutions in conflict with this resolution are hereby 'repealed to the extent of the conflict.
