A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF AMENDING LEGISLATION
TO ACCEPT OPTICAL DISK STORAGE AND MICROFILM
AS PERMANENT DOCUMENT RETENTION
WHEREAS, the Federal Rules of Evidence and the laws of all 50 states
provide for the admissibility of optically stored records in court; and
WHEREAS, imaging offers local government significant economies and the
opportunity to save valuable office space and storage costs by converting
large volumes of paper stored in file cabinets into electronic images
permanently stored on optical disk platters; and
WHEREAS, imaging systems represent an opportunity to significantly
broaden public access to government records in document form; and
WHEREAS, the Municipal Clerks of DuPage County and the Municipal Clerks
of Illinois have adopted resolutions in support of amending legislation to
accept optical disk storage;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE PRESIDENT AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF
THE VILLAGE OF OAK BROOK, DU PAGE AND COOK COUNTIES, ILLINOIS as follows:
Section 1: That the provisions of the preamble hereinabove set forth
are hereby adopted as though fully set forth herein.
Section 2: That this Village Board, in consideration of the above
information, and in support of the Municipal Clerks of Illinois and the
Municipal Clerks of DuPage County, respectfully urges the Illinois General
Assembly to enact legislation to accept optical disk storage as well as
microfilm as suitable permanent document storage media in the Illinois State
Archives.
PASSED AND APPROVED this 24th day of October 1995, by the
President and Board of Trustees of the Village of Oak Brook, DuPage and Cook
Counties, Illinois, according to a roll call vote as follows:

Nays: None
Absent: Trustees Payovich and Shumate _
