Last saved by DocumenO OAK BROOK FIRE DEPARTMENT MEMORANDUM Date: October 20, 2006 (Rev: 612612007) To: Robert Kallien, Community Development Subject: Clearwater Project Documents From: Jim Bodony, Fire Chief The Fire Department and the Fire Prevention Bureau have reviewed the Clearwater Project documents that were forwarded to my office and have made several observations and/or recommendations to the developer. I have listed them below._ 1. The exterior access to the hotel, condos and fitness center for fire department aerial equipment is adequate as shown on the Approved Conceptual Plan. 2. Multi tenant spaces will require the fire alarm system to activate audible warning one space on either side of the initial activation. 3. Multi story building fire alarm systems will be required to activate 1 floor below and 2 floors above the initial activation. 4. The Fitness center will need a stand alone fire alarm system. 5. The Hotel will need a stand alone fire alarm system. 6. Condo complex will require a stand alone fire alarm system, as well as automatic fire sprinklers (NFPA 13D). 7. Fire lanes and signage shall be well marked to allow for emergency vehicle access to all buildings. 8. All fire department sprinkler connections on the building exterior shall be readily accessible and within 100 feet of a fire hydrant. 9. Hydrant mains shall be a minimum of 6" and looped. 10. The Village shall require the developer to install an in building public safety bi- directional radio amplification system in the condominium building. The specification for the performance of this system and of allowable alternates is available from the Oak Brook Fire Department. 11. The site shall meet minimum turning radiuses for fire department's largest vehicle. 12. The owner will pressurize stairwells for smoke control where required by code. 13. There will be no access between the Hotel and T04. 14. There will be no access between the Fitness Center and T 11, 15. The owner will design the roof load capacity of the condominium parking structures in areas where emergency vehicles will drive over the condominium parking structure to accept the heaviest vehicles, 80,000 lbs. and the concentrated compression loads when -the jacking systems are deployed. 16. Provide smoke removal systems for multi -story buildings, where required by code. 17. The Owner will designate an area on the ground floor of the condominium building for a Command Center for use during emergencies. 18. The Fire Department will require that it be included in the design of the solid waste chutes if installed, in the hotel and high rise, as well as input on the location and design of any solid waste storage or trash compactor rooms 19. The Owner will provide standby power for the elevators in the condominium and the hotel to return the cars one by one to a designated floor, and to power one car as the Fireman's car.
