RESOLUTION 96-BP-EXI-R-675
A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE VILLAGE OF OAK BROOK'S
POSITION THAT A PEDESTRIAN/BIKE PATH AND LEFT TURN LANES BE INCLUDED
IN THE MIDWEST ROAD IMPROVEMENTS
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE PRESIDENT AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE VILLAGE OF
OAK BROOK, DU PAGE AND COOK COUNTIES, ILLINOIS that the Village of Oak Brook
strongly urges the DuPage County Board to return construction of a
pedestrian/bike path to its plans for the Midwest Road improvements for the
following reasons:
• Pedestrian/bicyclist safety is significantly advanced by the path along
this heavily travelled roadway; some years ago a pedestrian was killed
by a motorist along this roadway; and
• A path at this location is the linch pin to a unified pedestrian/bike
path system. As can be seen on the attached map, construction of this
path will serve to connect existing paths to the south, east and west
within the Village of Oak Brook and surrounding communities; and
• Our residents strongly support construction of the path at this
location. Our Bicycle Safety Pathway Committee, whose members are
appointed by both the village and the Park District, unanimously
recommended construction of this path after months of study and planning
the expansion and improvement of the pathway system within the Village;
the Committee made this recommendation after a resident survey
resoundingly supported expansion and improvement of the pathway system
at this and other locations; and
• Construction of this path will facilitate access to the Prairie Path;
and
• For decades this Village has been committed to enhancing a pedestrian
bike path system, as such a facility builds a sense of community within
the village and among its neighbors; and
• The proposed path will enhance the countywide pedestrian bike path
system for which DuPage County recently received an award from NACO;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Board strongly urges the DuPage County
Board to return the left turn lanes to the intersection irr.nrovements at
Kimberley Lane/Midwest Road and Mockingbird Lane/Midwest Road for the
following reasons:
• The safety of the motoring public is greatly enhanced by a non-moving
left turn lane at these heavily travelled intersections; and
• In the public/private partnership which led to the retention of
McDonald's World Headquarters within the Village and DuPage County,
McDonald's committed to financing substantial roadway improvements based

on a number of assumptions pertaining to publicly financed roadway
improvements, including the traffic carrying capacity of Midwest Road
with these left turn lanes in place.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Homeowners Associations in the Village
and concerned citizens, both in and beyond the Village, contact their
representatives on the DuPage County Board to express their support for the
pedestrian/bicycle path and the left turn lanes for the Midwest Road
improvements now being planned by DuPage County.

fBoard of Trustees of the Village of Oak Brook, DuPage and Cook Counties,
