AGENDA ITEM
Special Meeting of the Board of Trustees
of
September 11, 2012
SUBJECT: Red Light Camera at 22nd Street and Rt. 83
FROM: David Niemeyer, Village Manager
BUDGET SOURCE/BUDGET IMPACT: N/A
RECOMMENDED MOTION: I move to approve attached Resolution R -1198, "A
Resolution Opposing the Installation by the City of Oakbrook Terrace of a Red Light
Camera at Route 83 and 22nd Street.
Background/History:
Attached is a resolution opposing the installation by the City of Oakbrook Terrace of a red light
camera at Route 83 and 22 "d St. On Oakbrook Terrace's agenda for September 11 is a proposal
from Safe Speed to do a study to determine whether a red light camera should be installed at
eastbound 22 "d St and Route 83 as well as southbound Route 83 at 22nd St.
The Village is working with the Chamber of Commerce in opposing this because of its potential
negative effects on the Oakbrook Center Mall and other retail establishments in both Oak Brook
and Oakbrook Terrace. Also, since this intersection was just improved and one of the major
reasons for the improvements on 22nd St was to improve safety, this study is premature.
Trustee Yusuf and Assistant Manager Wing will be attending the meeting at Oakbrook Terrace
and will be delivering this resolution to the Oakbrook Terrace Mayor and Council.
Recommendation:
I recommend that the attached Resolution be approved.
