Re: Oak Brook Dray
During the afternoon yesterday at our Oak Brook Day festivities, a Bath and
Tennis Swimming staff member saved a two year old girl from drowning in the
lake.
The child had gone beyond the safety barrier and quickly went under, never
resurfacing.
i
The quick, alert and professional response of our Christine Smith saved this little
one's life. Many parents who were eyewitness to this occurrence expressed relief
and gratitude for the well-trained staff.
In particular, Tom Ruesdon asked me to make sure that the Board be made
aware of what in his observance was a tragedy averted.
Christine Smith is starting her third, year at the B&T. She will serve as the
principal swim coach this year for our team.
She's had extensive continuous training in life-saving and CPR with proper
certification aiul is a junior at the University of Kansas.

RELATIVE TO USE OF
The Intergovernmental A FIRE HYDRANTS
g greement authorizes the use of fire hydrants
in borderline areas of the Village of Lombard and the Village of Oak
Brook and is simply a formalization of a long-standing practice which
Lombard needs as they pursue Accreditation and improvement of
their ISO rating.
The agreement is consistent with past and current practices among the
Village's mutual aid fire departments. Typically, the closest fire
hydrants to the fire are utilized by the Village and neighboring
communities irrespective of ownership. If hydrants are used which
belong to another jurisdiction, then the appropriate notifications have
been made after the emergency incident is over. The affected areas
would be on Meyers and Butterfield Roads.

Dear Ms. Smith:
Please allow me to add my voice to the many who are thanking and congratulating you on your
swift and decisive action to save a small child from potential drowning at the Bath&Tennis Club
pond on Monday, May 25.
Looking after the safety of our residents and club members as they enjoy the swimming facilities at
the Bath&Tennis Club is an enormous responsibility that the Village Board and management have
taken very seriously over the 21 years of the Village's ownership of the facility. However,
successful fulfillment of that responsibility does not come without competent and dedicated
personnel like you.
Again, thank you. I wish you an enjoyable and uneventful remainder of the 1998 season!
Sincerely/ yl
