AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. G-11
PASSED AND APPROVED BY THE PRESIDENT AND
BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE VILLAGE OF OAKBROOK
ON THE 18th DAY OF FEBRUARY A. D. 1960
WHEREAS, the President and Board of Trustees of the Village
of Oakbrook did on the 18th day of February, A. D. 1960, adopt "An
Ordinance Establishing Rules and Regulations for the Construction,
Alteration, Repair and Conversion of Buildings within the Village
of Oakbrook, -DuPage County) Illinois ," known and designated as
Ordinance No. G-11; and WHEREAS, by the terms of said ordinance, the said President and Board of Trustees d id by reference adopt the rules
1955 Edition,
and regulations contained in the National Building Code,
as recommended by The National Board of Fire Underwriters, which had
theretofore been published in pamphlet form; and,
WHEREAS, it is the opinion of the Pres ident and Board of
Trustees of the Village of Oakbrook that certain amendments should
be made to the said National Building Code, 1955 Edition;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the President and Board.
of Trustees of the Village of Oakbrook that the following amendments
to the said National Building Code, 1955 Edition, as recommended by
The National Board of Fire Underwriters , be and the same are adopted :
Section-11- Section 1306.3 of said National Building Code
be and. the same is hereby amended, and as amended, shall read as
follows :
"Section 1306.3. Certification. Whenever any
elevator, movable stage, movable orchestra floor, platform
lift , dumbwaiter, or escalator, has been inspected and the
tests herein required shall have been made of all safety
devices with which such equipment is required to be equipped,
and the result of such inspection and tests shows that such
safety devices are in good working condition and in good

repair, it shall be the duty of the Commissioner of
Buildings to issue or cause to be issued a certificate
setting forth the results of such inspection and tests
and containing the date of inspection, the weight which
such equipment will safely carry, and. a statement to the
effect that the shaft doors, hoistway and all equipment,
including safety devices, comply with all applicable
provisions of this Code, upon the payment of the in-
spection fee required by this Code. It shall be the
�- joint and several duty of the owner, agent, lessee or
occupant of the building in which such equipment is
located, and of each person in. charge or control of such
equipment, to frame the certificate and place the same in
a conspicuous place in such elevator and near each dumb-
waiter, movable stage, movable orchestra floor, platform
lift , or escalator. The words 'safe condition.' in this
section shall mean that it is safe for any load up to
the approved weight named in such certificate. "
Section 2. There is hereby added after Section 1308 of
said National Building Code the following sections , which shall be
known and designated as Sections 1309 and 1310 :
"Section 1309. Pees. The fee for each such in-
spection shall be Fifteen Dollars and shall be payable to
the Village Clerk of the Village of Oakbrook, DuPage
County, Illinois. The failure to pay such fee promptly
when due shall constitute a violation of this ordinance
and subject the owner, agent , lessee and occupant of the
building in, which such equipment is located. to the penalties
provided in this ordinance.
"Section. 1310. Penalty. Any person violating,
resisting or opposing the enforcement of any of the

provisions of this Article shall be fined not less than
Twenty-Five Dollars nor more than Two Hundred Dollars for
each offense. Every day such violation shall continue
shall constitute a separate and distinct offense; and any
builder or contractor who shall construct any building in
violation of the provisions of this Article, and any
architect who shall design., draw plans for, or have super-
vision of such building, or who shall permit it to be con-
structed, shall be liable for the penalties provided and
imposed herein. "
