REPLY To OAK BROOK Orrtcz
You may recall my having written to you on
December 5, 1978, with regard to a meeting of the
Committee-Of-The-Whole of the Oak Brook Village Board
that was scheduled to be held on December 11, 1978.
The paramedic subject was to be on the agenda at that
meeting. Subsequently, we notified you that the para-
medic subject would be on a later Committee -Of- The -whole
meeting agenda
The paramedic subject now has been placed on the
agenda of the Committee -Of-- The - Whole meetiIg of .the
Oak Brook Village Board that is scheduled to be held
in the Samuel E. Dean Board room of the Village Commons
on next Monday evening, January 22, 1979, commencing at
7:30 p.m. It is our understanding that the paramedic
subject will be the first item on the agenda that evening.
I plan to appear on behalf of ABACI, and all persons
interested in this subject are welcome to attend the meeting
and express their views to the members of the Village Board.
Sin ly yours ,

to the acceptability of said arrangements by the
appropriate officials of the Village of Oak Brook
and the Board of Directors of our Association.
Admittedly, we '0,.d not conduct a highly
arganized solicitation campaign, but we contacted
either by letter,• personal interview, or both, most
of the leading business firms in the Oak Brook area.
This resulted in pledges totalling $51,150.00
for the first year, $37,975.00 for the second year
and $17,350.00 for the third year. In addition to
these pledges., the Board of Directors of our
Association has indicated that the Association
would give $5,000.00 towards the first year's '
operation from funds now in the Association's
treasury. Also, we have been contacted by the
Oak Brook Jaycees who have indicated to us that the
Oak Brook Junior Association Foundation, the chari-
table arm of the Jaycees, would like to pledge 50%
of•the net proceeds from their 1979 4nnual awards
dinner towards the paramedic project. This dinner
is scheduled to be held in February and 50% of_the
net proceeds could approximate $4,000.00 to $5,000.00.
It is the dinner at which an outstanding member of,
the Oak. Brook business community will be honored,
and while it has not yet been publicized, it is-our
understanding that Bob Powers of Nalco is the man
to be honored at the 1979 dinner. The Jaycees,
however, would have to know before the.end of 1978
whether a paramedic service will be in operation, and
they then would publicize the fact that the net
proceeds from their dinner will be given-towards
the cost of the paramedic service. ,
We want to make it clear that our Association
has no intention of becoming involved in any way in
the operation of the paramedic service. The pledges
we have solicited have been solicited and made with
the view that the monies would be paid over to the
Village for a paramedic service to be managed by
the Village.

We compliment you for having acquired an
emergency medical vehicle and having instituted
in August a medical technician- staffed emergency
medical service. This is a great improvement over
the service that previously was available through
the Police Department. However® everything we
have been able to learn supports the conclusion
that a paramedic - staffed service is much better
than a medical technician - staffed service, and of
course much more expensive.
Enclosed with each copy of this letter is a
list of the pledges or commitments that we have to
date. Also enclosed are copies of most of the
pledges and some of the letters from interested
companies. We also have included a letter proposal
dated January 166 1978 from Superior Ambulance, Inc.
of Elmhurst. This proposal was made before the
Village's purchase of a vehicle and on the assump-
tion that Superior would provide the vehicle and
all equipment as well as the paramedics. We sub-
sequently inquired of Superior as `co what their
charges would be if the village furnished the
vehicle, the telemetery equipment, :supplies and
rousing. Superior responded Ly letter dated
June 21, 1978 that their charge would then be
approximately $100,000.00 per year for furnishing
all paramedic personnel necessary to provide full -
time paramedic ambulance service. r. copy of that
letter is included with the material being provided
to you, aCh(! at the bottom of that letter is a
hand -- written note from Jim Benes to George Schlosser
in which he stated that he had spoken with Dave Hill
of Superior on October 3rd and that Mr. Hill had
said that the amount included in the June 21st
letter was still "in the ball park."
We should like to have the opportunity to
discuss this subject either with a committee of
the Board of Trustees or the full Board, and if the
