Minutes - 01/08/2004 - Hotel Convention and Visitors CommitteeOak Brook Hotel, Convention & Visitors Committee Minutes of Thursday January 8, 2004 Meeting Upper Level Conference Room Oak Brook Village Hall Present: Chairman, Tony Mira John Merrill Ralph Maxson Steve Thayer Heather Wehling Chuck Fleming Absent: Laurie Adams Julie Coker Ted Selogie Also Present: Village Manager Rick Boehm Denise Brownell, Hyatt Regency Oak Brook Skip Stritmatter, DuPage Convention and Visitors Bureau Village Trustee John Craig Mark Mathews, Argent Real Estate Development Corporation Bonnie Sartore, Bath and Tennis Manager Meeting was called to order at 2:08 p.m. APPROVAL OF November 6, 2003 MEETING MINUTES Moved by Chuck Fleming and seconded by Ralph Maxson to approve the minutes of the November 6, 2003 meeting as submitted. Motion unanimously passed OLD BUSINESS: Denise Brownell discussed the 2004 marketing campaign. Rick Boehm reported that the Village Board approved the 2004 Village Budget which included the recommended monies for the 2004 marketing campaign. NEW BUSINESS: A presentation was made by Mark Mathews of Argent Real Estate Development Corporation, Lead Developer for the proposed Oak Brook Meadows Music Venue. Mark reported that a team has been assembled to include an architect, civil engineers, landscape architect, acoustical consultant; theatre consultant, and traffic engineers. Page 1 of 2 Oak Brook Hotel Convention & Visitors Committee Meeting Minutes: January 8, 2004 The proposal includes a 3,000 seat pavilion and a lawn area that could accommodate up to 10,000 patrons. The team anticipates an average of 5,000 to 6,000 per event. The season is envisioned to be from Memorial Day through mid September with 30 -36 (possibly 40) events per season. The venue would require up to 6,000 parking spaces. The types of acts envisioned are Nora Jones, Tony Bennett, etc. If everything were to go as planned a spring 2005 opening is envisioned. The group present were impressed with the concept and thought that this venue would be indeed an added attraction for them to use in attracting customers and overnight stays in both the group and leisure travel areas. ADJOURNMENT: Moved by John Merrill and seconded by Heather Wehling to adjourn the meeting at 3:05 p.m. Motion unanimously passed.
