OF TRUSTEES OF THE VILLAGE OF OAK BROOK
AND THE OAK BROOK PARK DISTRICT BOARD OF
COMMISSIONERS APPROVED AS WRITTEN ON
FEBRUARY 24, 2004.
CALL TO ORDER:
The Special Joint Meeting of the Village Board of Trustees and the Oak Brook
Park District Board of Commissioners was called to order by Oak Brook Park
District President Thomas Truedson at 8:00 a.m. in Meeting Rooms 4 & 5 of
the Oak Brook Park District Family Recreation Center, 1450 Forest Gate Road,
Oak Brook, Illinois.

A. Park District Board of Commissioners
Oak Brook Park District Executive Director Tom Suhs called the roll with the
following persons
PRESENT: Oak Brook Park District Board President Thomas Truedson, Park
District Board Vice President Harry Peters, Park District Commissioner
Howard Trier.
ABSENT: Park District Board Treasurer John O'Brien, Commissioner Marie
Kokenis.
B. Village of Oak Brook Board of Trustees
Village Clerk Linda Gonnella called the roll with the following persons
PRESENT: President Kevin Quinlan, Trustees Stelios Aktipis, George T.
Caleel, Susan Chase Korin, Elaine Miologos and Asif Yusuf.
ABSENT: Trustee John W. Craig.
IN ATTENDANCE: Richard B. Boehm, Village Manager, Tom Suhs,
Executive Director of the Oak Brook Park District and Jeffrey
Moline, Assistant Village Manager.
3. JOINT EXECUTION OF THE INTERGOVERNMENTAL AGREEMENT INTRGOV7
BETWEEN THE VILLAGE OF OAK BROOK AND THE OAK BROOK AGREEMENT
PARK DISTRICT FOR A HISTORICAL MUSEUM AT THE OLD BUTLER
SCHOOL:
Park District Board President Truedson stated this was exciting time for the
Village to move forward with the Old Butler School, a historic landmark, to
become the new museum for our Historical Society and that he was pleased to

3. be a part of the process. Both Presidents signed the intergovernmental
agreement. President Quinlan indicated that Village Trustee Susan Korin
would continue as the liaison from the Village between the two Boards. Park
District Commissioner Peters will continue in his capacity as liaison.
4. DISCUSSION OF THE OLD BUTLER SCHOOL CONVERSION: BUTLER SCHOOL
Village President Quinlan remarked of the creation of this entity as a concrete
example of these two Boards working together for the benefit of the Village
residents.
5. VILLAGE OF OAK BROOK UPDATE: voB UPDATE
President Quinlan indicated he had met with the homeowner association
presidents and the Village had received support from them regarding the
March 16th Primary Referendum for the t /4% sales tax increase for the funding
of our Village services. Also he received feedback from them regarding the
proposed Ravinia West project in which they were pleased to see the Village
considering new ideas for the Village but was not in support of this proposal.
6. OAK BROOK PARK DISTRICT UPDATE: PARK DISTRICT
Director Suhs announced that July 25th as the date of the 5K and IOK race in
Oak Brook. It will begin at 7:30 a.m. They are utilizing a course on the east
side of the Village and will staff the event with their staff as well as the Village
Police Department. The race will begin on Kensington near the Oak Brook
Post Office down Jorie Boulevard south through the Park District along
bicycle /pedestrian pathway, through McDonald's, Village of Oak Brook's
pathway around the golf course back down Jorie Boulevard to Kensington. The
race will be a certified course for the 5K and IOK races. They are looking for
assistance from the Oakbrook Shopping Center for raffle prizes and they are
considering the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation for the charity as one of our
residents has a child with the disease who would be the poster boy as a Village
event. The Park District will be forwarding a letter to the Village for its
approval of this race. Park President Truedson indicated that they hoped the
Oakbrook Shopping Center would be involved in this as a community event.
President Truedson commented of the celebration of their new expansion at the
recreation facility. The Park District with the assistance of Executive Director
Suhs received a $280,000 grant to utilize this resource for this project. He also
indicated that this was the third meeting of the two Boards.

7. OTHER BUSINESS: OTHER Bus.
Commissioner Peters discussed a memorandum from Trustee Korin and himself
discussing topics for the two Boards consideration. One option was the use of
racquetball courts at the Park District for golf lessons. In meeting with Oak
Brook Golf Club Manager Trey VanDyke, he indicated it was not feasible due
to the space constraints of the courts. Also they discussed a joint effort between
the two entities for Oak Brook Day, a dive team to compliment the Park
District's swim team and the possibility of incorporating tennis lessons using
the Bath & Tennis Club courts. Trustee Korin suggested using the racquetball
courts for climbing walls as they are being used for therapy at certain
rehabilitation centers.
President Truedson explained the Park District's consideration of expanding
their parking area and having a one lane road into their facilities. They will be
expanding their Texas splash outdoor park for outside activities for families
south of the existing pool.
Commissioner Peters suggested the Village be given a two page section in their
Park District brochure so that our residents have the opportunity to view one of
our different agencies in our community and to communicate key issues. It
could also include our Village Library happenings.
Village Manager Boehm indicated that the Park District brochures will be
displayed at the Bath & Tennis Club for our residents and the Park District will
display the Bath & Tennis Club's brochure at their facility.
President Truedson explained that their website has links to the School District
53's website and March 1st there will be intergovernmental linkage between the
Oak Brook Park District, Village of Oak Brook and School District 53.
Trustee Caleel inquired if the Park District has rehabilitation facilities. Director
Suhs indicated the Park District has a physical therapist on staff to facilitate
programs in their pool. Trustee Caleel explained that the facility could be
approved for Medicare patients. President Truedson asked that their staff
research this further.
Mary Ellen Mauro, President of the Oak Brook Historical Society, introduced
the members of their Board present at the meeting. They included Audrey
Muschler, Joyce Trier, Robert Fleishman, Darlene Casey and Lars Okmark.
She commended both Boards for their cooperation in dedicating the Old Butler
School as their new museum for their Society.

TOUR OF OAK BROOK PARK DISTRICT'S NEWLY EXPANDED TOUR
FACILITY:
Director Suhs gave a tour of the facility to Assistant Village Manager Moline.
9. ADJOURNMENT:
Oak Brook Park District President Truedson adjourned the meeting at 8:34 a.m.
