The meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m. by commissioner Bobbie
Petz.
Present: Commissioners Roberta Petz and Barbara Benezra
Also Present: Librarian Ruth Martin, Trustee Gerald McInerney
and Doings Newspaper Reporter Jane Zentmyer
Absent: Commissioner Robert Leuser
Ruth Martin reported on the Library project schedule. Currently working
on site selection and have met with Rob Lee and Ray Cripe and
considering village owned sites. Karen Bushy has indicated that the
Commission will be part of the project.
The Village is negotiating with a Space Needs Consultant but a contract
has not yet been signed. Ruth and the consultant plan to brainstorm the
week -end of February 2 -3 -9 to determine library philosophy and
direction. A revised first draft of the needs requirements is due
February 29.
The next step will be to talk with an architect. In process of
completing an RFP (request for proposal) i.e., an outline of the project
along with a description of the municipal bid process.
The referendum date is November 5, 1996.
Director's Report: Ruth Martin reported that Friday and Saturday hours
have been expanded to 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. The library currently has
3 positions open and will advertise for new help.
"Serving Our Public" will replace "Avenues To Excellence" and copies are
ordered.
The Library Director} Commission members and Association members have
toured Westmont and West Chicago libraries to see examples of new
library construction. Ruth and Bobbie toured 5 new Chicago branch
libraries to see their use of space and environment.
The chapter on "Materials" in "Avenues To Excellence" was reviewed.
The meeting adjourned at 7:25 p.m.
