Absent: Laura Shurman, Assistant Librarian
The Oak Brook Library Commission met Tuesday, January 25,
1994, at 6:05 p.m. in the library.
A discussion about the change in non - resident library fees
from $94.00 to $101.00, effective 1/1/94 occurred. Trustee
McInerney will contact Dick Martens if Board approval is
necessary and whether it has been done. It is assumed that
the DuPage Library System has been notified of the change.
Roberta (Bobbie) Petz moved that the minutes of the October
26, 1993, meeting be approved as presented. Motion carried.
Joe introduced a revised agenda from the one originally
published as part of the meeting notice, with a corrected
purpose statement.
Bobbie was welcomed as a new commissioner to fill Barbara-
Haffner-'s unexpired term. Bobbie is a librarian from the
Chicago Public Library with 20 years experience. She was in
charge of the 84 branch libraries before her retirement.
A copy of the Miscellany ad seeking a new Oak Brook
librarian was distributed: Joe and Bobbie worked with the
Village manager to produce the ad and a telephone hotline
message that have resulted in 13 applications.
It was unanimously agreed that Joe would continue as
commission chairperson.
Trustee McInerney stated his role as liaison to be the
library spokesperson on the Village board. He anticipates
using an urban planner with a blue ribbon committee of
residents to study the Village as a whole to bring a unified
approach to library and sports core enhancement. It was
noted that there has been a vacancy since February or March,
1993, for sports core manager. The Board president has
stated that no urban planner would be hired until a manager
is in place.

Trustee McInerney was asked to interpret what is the library
commission's job. He was given a copy of Illinois Library
Law, Village Library Act, section 16.D. Currently, there is
no Village board approved set of rules for library
commission operation. It was noted that the librarian is a
department head, reporting directly to the Village manager.
Commissioners are willing to provide maximum assistance in
the job of getting a qualified librarian. Specifically, are
commissioners involved in the hiring process of a new
librarian? If so, how? Trustee McInerney will consult with
attorney Dick Martens and respond to Joe.
On January 24, 1994 commissioners met and reviewed the 13
applications for the librarian job. They recommended 9
candidates to be invited for interview.
The next commission meeting is scheduled for April 25, 1994,
6:00 p.m., at the library.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:02 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
