LIBRARY LANDSCAPING: Before the library landscaping was discussed, Director Klinkow asked the Commission to renew its endorsement of participation in the public library non resident card program at a new fee level, a level determined by law. The Commission unanimously agreed to recommend the Village Board adopt a resolution to participate in the 2006 non resident public library card program with an annual fee of $431.00 per family. Paul Wiese and Ben Kutscheid of JJR/Smith Group offered their Oak Brook Public Library master landscape plan, using a power point presentation which included one view for the overall site plan and details of the east, south, far west, and entry gardens. • The south side included clearing the under story of buckthorn, a new bike bath connecting to existing bike system, an interpretive trail through the woods and a ground plane that included shade loving plants, wild flowers and bulbs. • The west side provides open views, canopy trees for shade, native grasses and wildflowers planted in groupings. • The east side showed view corridors to the special gardens, allowing for placement of sculptures or art pieces. Special gardens to be developed later, include a winter garden, a maze or puzzle garden, or a spring garden. There will be a "heritage" path to accommodate donations of sculptures or memorial trees. All agreed with Commissioner Sutton's recommendation that there be signage on the plantings for educational purposes. In the island are lines of prairie crabapple trees and canopy trees. The Commissioners would like to see boxwood or holly instead of the spirea, lariope or fescue up against the windows by the south entrance instead of the swath of grass that would require mowing. The trees may be Marmo Maples or Swamp White Oak. A change in proposed seating led to tables and chairs on both sides of the central garden. Signage was discussed as well as painting the service door to match the wood siding. Commissioner Bishlawi recommended having a 2 year guarantee on the plantings and providing seating throughout all the garden. Irrigation and drainage of trees was discussed. JJR feels a summer planting is possible and will be their goal. 4. ADJOURNMENT: Commissioner Duff moved to adjourn the meeting at 8:37 p.m. Commissioner Skowron seconded.
