The Oak Brook Library Commission met April 21, 1992,
at 7:30 p.m., in the library.
Barbara Benezra moved that the minutes of the January 21,
1992, meeting be accepted. So moved.
Barbara Benezra moved that the minutes of March 24, 1992,
be approved with the following corrections made:
Joe Fullan felt that we did not need a sketch of
a library building before presenting a proposal
to residents regarding an expanded library build-
ing.
Also, the sites the commissioners ranked at the
March 24, 1992, meeting were corrected as follows:
1. Park District
2. Corner of Jorie and 31st Street
3. McDonald's property
Barbara Benezra talked to Susan Johnson, President
of the Park District Board, regarding a library site
on Park District property. An informal consensus of
Park District board members was that the Park District
might want to consider using the site the commissioners
and librarian favored some time in the future and were
not willing to give it up.
Joanne offered another site option located on Kensing-
ton just east of the Post Office. The site has an
empty 35,254 square foot two -story empty commercial
building. Joanne will arrange an appointment with the
realtor for a tour by the Commission and perhaps the
Library Association Board. Preferable dates are
-2-
Monday, May 4, or Friday, April 24, between noon and
1:30 p.m.
The Corrmission redrafted the memo for the Village
Board Corrmittee of the Whole and added a unanimous
recorrmendation that the library governance be changed
to a library district and that this item be prepared
for a referendum vote on the November, 1992, ballot.
Joanne will type a new draft incorporating changes and
send back to the Corrmi ss ion for their corrments .
Another consideration is that the Sports Core will be
paid for in 1993. If the library were to lease a
building until 1993, then the library could utilize
the tax the residents were paying for the Sports Core
and thus would not experience an increase in their
taxes. If so, library governance would probably con-
tinue as it is now.
Site ranking will not be made until after the May, 4,
1992 meeting with Steve Larson, Financial Advisor/
Consultant sponsored by the Oak Brook Library Associa-
tion.
It was the consensus of the Con - mission that the memo
to the Village Board of Trustees be placed on the
June Corrmittee of the Whole agenda if possible.
The library statistics for January, February, and
March, 1992, were noted. Circulation of materials
increased 6% overithe same period in 1991.
The meeting adjourned at 9:30 p.m.
The next regularly scheduled meeting is July 21, 1992
Respectfully submitted,
DAnn4
