Minutes - 05/09/1995 - Library Commissiondale f�zzool �u�P�c .C�tZaancy 7112 da(e �aaole goad dale S"zoo�i, U 60521 7d: 708- 990-2222 fax: 708- 990-0170 MINUTES OF THE OAK BROOK LIBRARY COMMISSION May 9, 1995 The meeting was called to order by Commissioner Bobbie Petz at 6 00 P.M Present- Commissioners Bobbie Petz, Barbara Benezra and Bob Leuser Also present: Librarian Ruth Martin Absent- Trustee Jerry McInerney The minutes from the March 14, 1995 meeting were approved as presented Old Business. a. Librarian Martin reported that Patti Kuhl will be Oak Brook Library's new Reference and Adult Services Librarian She begins her new duties on June 26, 1995 after she completes current contract obligations. b. The community assessment part of the Sasaki study is completed. The written responses tend to show lack of support for a new library building at the Sports Core, that people do want library service and that there is considerable frustration in the Village regarding the Library and many other Village issues The telephone survey responses listed 62% of respondents want more and better library programs and 66% want more and better library collections Focus group reports have not yet been presented c. The Sasaki study will be the main topic at the June 12, 1995 Committee of the Whole meeting The full report on the community assessment will be presented at that time New Business- a. The Library Commission wishes to consolidate its advocacy efforts, however, the Commissioners determined that the results of the Sasaki study must be available in order to plan action b The first draft of the Collection Management Policy was sent in packets to the Commissioners and Trustee McInerney Librarian Martin was requested to rewrite the "Description" portion A second draft will be presented at the July meeting c Avenues to Excellence. The section on Reference Service was reviewed Director's Report In an abbreviated report due to the need to adjourn to attend the Village Board Meeting, Librarian Martin stated that the summer reading program is planned and ready to go Kick -off to the program will be on May 29, 1995 (Oak Brook Day) at the Sports Core The meeting was adjourned at 7 30 p m.
