MINUTES OF THE
OAK BROOK LIBRARY COMMISSION
May 14, 1996
•
The meeting was called to order at 6:20 p.m. by commissioner Roberta
Petz.
Present: Commissioners Roberta Petz, Anthony Ingrisano and Barbara
Benezra
Also Present: Librarian Ruth Martin, Trustee Gerald McInerney
Architect Jay Carow, Project Architect David Schmitt
Residents Joe Fullan and Lucia Sutton
Doings Newspaper Reporter Jane Zentmyer
Anthony Ingrisano was welcomed as the newest member of the commission.
The minutes of the January 8, 1996 meeting were approved as submitted.
Old Business: The firm of Carow Architect Planners has been hired by the
Village. The Library Building Plan draft was distributed to the
commissioners and the Library Liaison Trustee.
A survey will be mailed to all Village residents for design input for
the new Library. Architects will help prepare the form. It will be
mailed on Library stationery and will include a mission /vision
statement. The architects will be available in June, at the Library to
answer residents' questions and suggestions during the day and will
present a formal program in the evening in the Sam Dean Board Room.
The architects recommend a 24,000 sq. ft. library be one story and would
therefore require a 36,000 sq. ft. foot plan. A one story building
would be easier to operate, more efficient and lend itself to a second
story if necessary, in the future. The architects will contact the Park
District about a flat grade site available on Park District land, large
enough to accommodate such a one story building.
New Business: Ruth Martin distributed copies of "Serving Our Public"
which will be used as the current guideline to evaluate Oak Brook
Library services. A review schedule was adopted and will start 7/96.
The meeting adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
Next Meeting: Tuesday, July 23, 1996, 6:00 p.m.
Lower Level Conference Room, Village Hall
Respectfully submitted,
Barbara Benezra, Commissio er
