OF THE LIBRARY COMMISSION OF THE VILLAGE OF
OAK BROOK UNOFFICIAL UNTIL APPROVED AS
WRITTEN OR AS AMENDED ON JUNE 17, 2004.
CALL TO ORDER:
The regular meeting of the Library Commission was called to order by Chairperson
Melissa Salazar in the Library Meeting Room at 7:30 p.m.
2. ROLL CALL:
Commissioner Salazar called the roll with the following persons
PRESENT: Commission Chairperson Melissa Salazar, Commissioners Randa
Bishlawi, Madeline Bell, Janice Skowron and Lucia Sutton
ABSENT: Commissioners William Duff and Veena Mendiratta
IN ATTENDANCE: Susan Madorin, Interim Library Director and Michelle M.
Coduto, Meeting Secretary
3. APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
REGULAR LIBRARY COMMISSION MEETING - NOVEMBER 18, 2003
Motion by Commissioner Bishlawi seconded by Chairperson Salazar to approve
the minutes of the Regular Library Commission Meeting — November 18, 2003 as
submitted.

A. REQUEST FOR RECONSIDERATION:
A Library patron filed a Request for Reconsideration concerning the DVD Things
You Can Tell Just by Looking at Her. It was decided by the Commission that the
title was purchased in accordance with the Library's Collection Management
Policy. Commissioner Bishlawi moved to deny the request for reconsideration.
Salazar seconded the motion. The Commission voted unanimously to deny the
request for reconsideration.
B. NON - RESIDENT LIBRARY CARD PROGRAM:
Commission Chairperson Salazar presented the Non - resident Library Card
Program. The Commission discussed the Illinois state law concerning the program
and possible options for the Library. Commissioner Bishlawi moved to
recommend the resolution for the program to the Board of Trustees. Chairperson

Salazar seconded the motion. The Commission voted unanimously to recommend
the resolution.
C. DISCUSS WELCOMING OF NEW DIRECTOR:
NEW DIRECTOR
Commissioner Bell, who, with Commissioner Skowron, was a Commission WELCOME
representative in the interviewing, presented the background information about
future Library Director Margaret Klinkow. Bell announced that Village Manager
Rick Boehm has discussed a reception to welcome Director Klinkow. The
reception is to include the Board of Trustees, Library Commission, Village staff
and the Friends of Oak Brook Library.
CHAIRPERSON'S REPORT CHAIR REPORT
Chairperson Salazar thanked Commissioners Bell and Skowron for their
contributions to the hiring process. Salazar also thanked Madorin for her work as
Interim Director while continuing her duties as Youth Services Manager. The
sentiment was echoed by Commissioners Bell and Skowron.
Salazar congratulated Commissioner Duff, who was not present, on his recent
publication in the DuPage Library System's April/May newsletter.
Salazar announced that the Meeting Room Policy will be discussed at the next
Commission meeting. Commissioner Bishlawi asked that the frequency of Library
Commission meetings be placed on the agenda as well.
DIRECTOR'S REPORT DIR. REPORT
Interim Director Madorin announced the summer reading program, beginning June
1, 2004.
Commissioner Bishlawi commended the Friends of Oak Brook Library on their
April Used Book Sale and suggested that the Commissioners take a larger part in
the sale next year.

Chairperson Salazar moved to adjourn the meeting at 9 p.m. Commissioner Bell
seconded the motion.
