MINTUTE S OF THE
OAK BROOK LIBRARY COMIVIISSION
July 14, 1998
The meeting was called to order at 6.10 p.m, by Commissioner Roberta Petz,
Present: Commissioners Roberta Petz, Barbara Benezra and Anthony Ingrisano,
Also Present: George T, Caleel, Library Liaison Trustee, Library Director Ruth Martin
and Susan Esposito, meeting secretary,
The Minutes of the May 12, 1998 meeting were approved as submitted,
Old Business
New Library Update: Director Martin reported that the court will not hear oral
arguments but will make a determination based on the submitted briefs,
Foundation Update: Director Martin stated once all signatures are in order the by-
laws :rill be filed
Friends of the Library: Commissioner Ingrisano reported the Friends had made a
$2500 donation to the Library, of which $1400 came from the book sale The
Library will purchase West's Encyclopedia of American Law, Ae New Grove
Dictionary of Opera, and the -Yew C.athohc Encyclopedia with the donation,
Grant Applications: Director Martin reported that the Hinsdale Public Library's
Youth Enrichment Services grant has been funded, Oak Brook Libra._ry and
Clarendon Hills Public Library are partners in this grant. Some of the items OBPL
will receive include approximately $5000 in equipment and $4000 in consulting
services. It is planned that the new workstations will be up and running by
September_

Director Martin will discuss with the grant project team, the possibility of including
Village of Oak Brook events,
New Business
Policies: The General Policy was discussed. It was agreed that the General_ Policy
may be reviewed earlier than an dependent upon the "_move in" date for the
new library building,
The Policy for Use of Public Access Computers and Electronically Delivered
Information was discussed and adopted,
Serving Our Public (SOP) Chapters 1, 2 and 9 were reviewed,
Presideptt's Report: Commissioner Petz reported that the Library Commission will
need to meet with the Village Board of Trustees once the lawsuit has been resolved.
Director's Report: Director Martin reported that the construction of 31 ' Street had
hurt circulation numbers, but that the summer reading program has been very successful,
OPBL had it's best circulation day ever at 430 check -outs and has had several 300 days
as well, Repairs and improvements continue to be made to the existing building,
