MINUTES OF THE
OAK BROOK LIBRARY COMMISSION
August 21, 1996
•
The special meeting was called to order at 9:00 a.m. by commissioner
Roberta Petz.
Present: Commissioners Roberta Petz, Anthony Ingrisano and Barbara
Benezra
Also Present: Librarian Ruth Martin, Trustee Gerald McInerney
Doings Newspaper Reporter Kate Harrigan
It was noted that Village President Karen Bushy is attending a national
meeting in Seattle; she would otherwise be present at this meeting.
The purpose of this special meeting is to discuss the advisory
referendum wording and make a recommendation to the Village Board
because of the Board's failure to approve wording at the August 13, 1996
meeting. After unanimously approving the new Library site on Sports
Core property, on July 23, 1996, the Trustees failed to approve the
referendum wording on August 13, 1996, because they felt all possible
sites, specifically on Park District land, had not been fully explored.
Referendum wording must be approved at the August 27, 1996 meeting so it
can filed by September 3, 1996 with the County for inclusion on Oak
Brook ballots in the November election.
Under the Freedom of Information Act, copies of Village Board meeting
minutes from November, 1986 through August 9, 1996, pertaining to
library space issues were obtained and a summary of events, issues and
dollars spent on these issues was generated.
The Commission unanimously decided to send a memo to President Bushy and
all Village Trustees recommending the wording presented by Trustee
McInerney at the Ausgust 13, 1996 Board meeting stating the Sports Core
site be approved. The 10 year summary of library space issues created
by the Commission would also be attached to the memo.
Further, the Commission unanimously decided to send a memo to all Park
District Commissioners inviting them to attend the August 27, 1996
Village Board meeting.
The meeting adjourned at 9:45 a.m.
Next Meeting: Tuesday, September 10, 1996, 6:00 p.m.
Lower Level Conference Room, Village Hall
