Minutes - 09/09/1997 - Library Commissioni Da --V\OL,�4 MINUTES OF T HE qt q 7 OAK BROOK LIBRARY COMMISSION SE September 8, 1997 The meeting was called to order at 6 15 p m by Commissioner Roberta Petz Present Commissioners Roberta Petz, Barbara Benezra, and Anthony Ingrisano Also Present. Library Director Ruth Martin, Susan Esposito, meeting secretary, and David Heights of the Oak Brook Press. Excused George T Caleel, Library Liaison Trustee The Minutes of the July 8, 1997 meeting were approved as submitted Old .business Foundation Update Director Martin spoke with Attorney Dick Martens who is in process of drafting by -laws Martin recommends that a Directors' meeting will be called to discuss the by -law draft upon completion Martin will continue to communicate with Martens regarding organizational steps Collection Management Policy (CMP) review: Minor edits will be completed to the CMP before submission to the Board of Trustees for approval Martin will verify that all references to the Oak Brook Library Association will be changed to Friends of the Oak Brook Public Library The Commission recommended that CMP be passed to the Board of Trustees for approval CMP will go before the Board in October New Business Serving Our Public (SOP) Chapters 3 & 7 were read and reviewed Possible suggestions for future OBPL publicity included, a web -site, a monthly or bi- monthly newsletter once construction begins on the new library, and developing a regular column in a local newspaper Martin will present information on bloodborne pathogens at the next commission meeting Friends' of Oak Brook Public Library report: Commissioner Anthony Ingrisano reported that the Friends group now offered books for sale on a regular basis on a cart in the library vestibule The Friends group will also have a table at the EthnicFest and will pass out materials regarding the Evergreen Concert series, 0 0 current library programs, refrigerator magnets and information on the Friends' group President's Report: Commissioner Roberta Petz reported that the DuPage Library System Web page was most informative, entertaining and a potential guide for a future Friends or Library web -site Also discussed was the new Bill Gates foundation donating $400 million in cash and equipment to local libraries Director's Report: Director Martin reported that Youth Services Librarian Sue Madorin has been going to local schools to discuss the services and collections that are available in conjunction with school programs Also reviewed were the recent press releases, video lists, brochures and book lists available to the patrons Commissioner Ingrisano requested that 50 copies of the current video lists, brochures, and book lists be made available for distribution at EthnicFest The library's policy on book donations was clarified Closed Session: The Library Commission entered closed session to discuss pending litigation regarding the library The meeting adjourned at 7 40 p m Next meeting Tuesday, November 11, 1997, 6 00 p m Lower Level Conference Room, Village Hall Respectfully submitted, Susan Esposito Secretary
