MINUTES OF THE
OAK BROOK LIBRARY COMMISSION
November 11, 1997
The meeting was called to order at 6:05 p.m. by Commissioner Roberta Petz.
Present: Commissioners Roberta Petz, and Anthony Ingrisano.
Also Present: George T. Caleel, Library Liaison Trustee; Library Director Ruth Martin;
and Susan Esposito, meeting secretary.
Excused: Commissioner Barbara Benezra
The Minutes of the November 8, 1997 meeting were approved as submitted.
Old Business
New Library Update: Director Martin stated that the Village Board has decided to
appeal the court's decision and the Village attorney has filed the notice of appeal.
Foundation Update: Director Martin stated that the Village Attorney drafted by-
laws based on the samples the organizing committee discussed in May. They will
meet again on November 12, 1997 to discuss the draft.
Friends of the Library: Commissioner Ingrisano reported that the Evergreen
Concert was a success, 135 people attended. The next Evergreen Concert is on
April 19 and will be produced by the Lyric Opera School. There will be a book sale
the following weekend on April 24 and 25. The Friends plan to produce brochures
by which patrons may donate gift books in honor of special events. Director Martin
clarified that the Library chooses the book, but includes a memorial /honor /gift
plate.

Collection Management Policy (CMP) review: The CMP is submitted to the
Board of Trustees for approval on November 11 and will be presented by Trustee
Caleel.
New Business
Serving Our Public (SOP): Chapter 4, Collection Management, was reviewed and
discussed. UMI and Dial -Up Access programs and their billing options were also
discussed.
Commission Study Report: Commissioner Petz reported the need to keep the staff
and patrons encouraged while construction on the new library has been delayed.
Various problems were discussed including ways to balance offering new services
without spending very much money on the building. The decision was not to
pursue a formal report.
President's Report: Commissioner Petz reported on various local issues including
the fact that the DesPlaines Public Library lifted their restrictions regarding minors'
use of the internet and that the DuPage Library System had issued an "annual
report" of 23 accomplishments for 1997.
Director's Report: Director Martin briefly reviewed the Bloodborne Pathogens
Act.
The meeting adjourned at 7:15 p.m.
