Bill Kurtis will present the award at the Kohl's Childrens Museum but, Barbara will not attend the ceremony as there is this Commission meeting and a Village Board meeting to follow to discuss the future of the new Library. Old Business Advisory Referendum: Ruth Martin reported the following voting results: 52 % Yes and 48% No. She thanked the Oak Brook Library Association for all their help with running an excellent campaign and all the groups and individuals who supported the issue. Trustee Al Savino sent a letter with five suggestions for the new library to Roberta Petz. The Commissioners have prepared a written response that will be distributed and read aloud at this evening's Village Board meeting. Library Foundation: Ruth Martin plans to help set up a private foundation to support the Library as a 1997 objective. She will seek information about foundations as well as copies of existing bylaws. She will work with Dick Martens and the Commissioners and then present a package to the Village Board. A goal of the Foundation will be to pursue funding for the Library so as to eliminate stress on the Village budget. The proposal will most likely set a "cap" on the amount of money for the General Corporate Fund to supply for the Library's annual budget with the balance eventually funded by the Foundation. Director's Report: Ruth Martin sincerely and personally thanked the Commissioners and the citizens of Oak Brook for their support since she has been on the job. The Library now has an opera display that is matched with the Lyric season. The opera collection will continue to build and expand. The travel collection will also continue to expand. The Library recently received the Social Issues Resource CD ROM donated by the Oak Brook Women's Club and it is already being heavily used. The November display case features black and white photos, beginning in 1903 of the Infant Welfare Society of Chicago. Oak Brook is the first library to feature this exhibit. New to the Library is the Dow Jones News Retrieval service which is a tool used by the reference librarians. Library statistics for this year are up from the third quarter of 1995.
