Minutes - 11/14/1995 - Library Commission1112 Gal ��czal ,�aad Oal Fwdw/, 1Z 60521 7ee: 709'-990-2222 57ax: 709'- 19190 -0170 MINUTES OF THE OAK BROOK LIBRARY COMMISSION November 14, 1995 The meeting was called to order at 6.00 P M. by Bobbie Petz Present- Bobbie Petz, Barbara Benezra and Trustee Liaison Jerry McInerney Also present- Ruth Martin Absent. Bob Leuser The agenda was amended to address a patron's challenge to a book in the Oak Brook Library collection. After detailed review of the challenged material and the selection criteria, the Commissioners determined to maintain the item in the regular circulating collection. The patron was invited to attend this meeting, but did not Librarian Martin was instructed to write a letter to the patron advising of the Commission's action A copy of the letter will be filed in the "Requests for Reconsideration" file with the challenge paperwork Martin reported on the action on the Commission's Advisory Report At the regular Board meeting of September 26, 1995, the Village Trustees added a new library building to the Village's Fiver -Year Financial Plan as a result of the Commission's Advisory Report The Project Schedule as drafted by Village staff was reviewed. The Commissioners discussed the potential role of the Oak Brook Library Association as the primary advocacy group for seeking passage of the November 1996 advisory referendum The building of a new library facility is not a foregone conclusion. This project will require a significant team effort including all the Commissioners, the Village Trustees, the Oak Brook Library Association Board and members and the Library Director On October 26, Bobbie Petz, Barbara Benezra, Lucia Sutton, incoming OBLA president, Mary Ann Nunez, incoming OBLA vice- president and Ruth Martin visited Westmont Public Library and discussed building projects with Charlene Sanders, Westmont 1' Director and toured the facility for ideas. The next tour is planned for November 16 at West Chicago Library. Commissioner Leuser is not able to attend either of these. The chapter on personnel was reviewed in Avenues to Excellence.
