AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTIONS 11-5 and 11-6 OF THE
CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE VILLAGE OF OAK BROOK,
ILLINOIS, PERTAINING TO THE POLICE DEPARTMENT OF SAID
VILLAGE AND INCREASING THE NUMBER OF POLICE SERGEANTS AND PATROLMEN
WHEREAS, Sections 11- 5 and 11-6 of the Code of Ordinances of
the Village of Oak Brook presently provide respectively, a limitation
of seven (7) sergeants and twenty-three (23) police patrolmen; and
WHEREAS, the President and Board- of Trustees of the Village
of Oak Brook have previously authorized nine (9) sergeants and twenty-
six (26) police patrolmen through the approval of the Budget and Ap-
propriation Ordinance for Fiscal Year 1980-81 ;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE PRESIDENT AND BOARD OF
TRUSTEES OF THE VILLAGE OF OAK BROOK, DU PAGE AND COOK COUNTIES,
ILLINOIS as follows :
Section 1: That Section 11- 5 of the Code of Ordinances of
the Village of Oak Brook, Illinois be and is hereby amended to read as
follows :
Section 11- 5 Sergeant
The office of police sergeant is hereby created. Police
sergeants shall be limited to nine (9) in number . Police
sergeants shall be appointed by the board of fire and police
commissioners of the village pursuant to the statutes of
the state and rules of the board.
The duties of police sergeant shall be to give his attention
to the affairs of the village , preserve the peace , order,
safety and cleanliness , and to otherwise enforce the
ordinances of the village, and the orders of the police
chief, any other superior officer, lieutenant and the
village president .
Police sergeants shall be under the direct supervision of
designated superior officers , and shall at all times be
subject to the rules and regulations of the board of
fire and police commissioners .
Section 2 : That Section 11-6 of the Code of Ordinances of the
Village of Oak Brook, Illinois be and is hereby amended to read as
follows :
Section 11-6 Patrolmen
The office of police patrolman is hereby created. Police
patrolmen shall be limited to twenty-six (26) in number .
unless such number is otherwise changed by the president
and board of, trustees . Police patrolmen shall be appointed
by the board of fire and police commissioners of the village
pursuant to the statutes of the state and the rules of
the board of fire and police commissioners .

The duties of police patrolmen shall be to give their

provisions of this Code and other ordinances of the
Village, and the orders of superior officers and the
president. Police patrolmen shall be under the direct
supervision of their superior officers , and shall at all
times be subject to the rules and regulations of the
board of fire and police commissioners .
Section 3 : All ordinances or partsthereof in conflict with
the provisions of this Ordinance are hereby repealed to the extent of
such conflict.
Section 4 : This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect
from and after its passage and approval as provided by law.
