AGENDA ITEM
Regular Board of Trustees Meeting
of
January 12, 2010
SUBJECT: Village of Oak Brook — Text Amendment — Amend Sign Regulations
FROM: Robert L. Kallien, Jr., AICP, Community Development Director
BUDGET SOURCE/BUDGET IMPACT: N/A
RECOMMENDED MOTION: I move to approve Ordinance G -916, which approves a text
amendment to the Sign Regulations of the Zoning Ordinance.
Background/History:
At the December 8, 2009 meeting, the Village Attorney was directed to prepare the ordinance
granting approval of a text amendment to the Sign Regulations.
A key element of the new sign code gives greater flexibility the four (4) office towers that are on
22nd Street, south of Oakbrook Center in terms of the amount and location of signs.
It should be noted that the sign code in its present form will require additional amendments in the
coming months. As example, the issue of way- finding signage on Village owned property needs
to be further analyzed in order to develop a signage program (i.e., location, design, costs, etc.)
that is not only beneficial to both the private and public sectors. Such a program could be a
future revenue source for the Village. In addition, the issue of political signs will be further
analyzed to determine if changes to the sign code will be required.
Recommendation:
Approve Ordinance G -916.
