SUBJECT: Fireworks Regulations Ordinance

RECOMMENDATION: That the Village Board pass the attached ordinance which prohibits:
1) use of sparklers on public property;
2) use of airborne devices in the Sports Core; and
3) the sale of goods and services in the Sports Core.
At the recommendation of the Village Manager and the Bath & Tennis Manager, I have drafted the
attached ordinance which accomplishes the following:
1) prohibits the operation of mechanical airborne devices such as motorized model
airplanes and toy rockets in the Sports Core;
2) prohibits the sale of goods and services in the Sports Core, unless authorized in
writing by the Village Manager or his/her designee; and
3) prohibits the sale or use of sparklers in the Sports Core.
The proposed ordinance also amends Section 6 -1 -18 (Fireworks) of the Village Code by prohibiting
the sale or use of sparklers on public property.
I understand you will consider the proposed ordinance at your regular meeting on February 26, 2002.

Trustee Craig has recently been appointed as the liaison to the Sports Core and
was asked to present the agenda items related to the Sports Core. He explained
to the Board that his wife is an employee of the Oak Brook Bath & Tennis Club
and asked if any of the Board was opposed to lus serving as the Sports Core
liaison trustee. President Bushy affirmed his appointment indicating her trust
that this liaison would be handled in a professional manner. No other
comments were offered.

ACTIVITIES ") AND SECTION 6 -1 -18, ( "FIREWORKS ") OF THE
VILLAGE CODE OF THE VILLAGE OF OAK BROOK RELATING
TO VILLAGE RECREATIONAL FACILITIES AND POLICE
REGULATIONS, MISCELLANEOUS OFFENSES, RESPECTIVELY
At the recommendation of the Village Manager and the Bath & Tennis
Club Manager, Village Attorney Martens drafted an ordinance which
accomplishes the following: 1) prohibits the operation of mechanical

the Sports Core; 2) prohibits the sale of goods and services in the Sports

Motion by Trustee Craig, seconded by Trustee Savino, that the Village

Oak Brook Relating to Village Recreational Facilities and Police
Regulations, Miscellaneous Offenses, Respectively, which prohibits the
use of sparklers on public property; the use of airborne devices in the
Sports Core; and the sale of goods and services in the Sports Core.

Ayes: 5 - Trustees Caleel, Craig, Korin, Miologos and Savino.
Nays: 0 - None.
Absent: 0 - None. Motion carried.
