Background/History: The attached ordinance authorizes the sale of Units # 201, 313, 321, 321A, 405, 702, 948, and 958. Confirmed by both the Village's Public Works and Purchasing Department's these vehicles are no longer economically operable because of high maintenance costs caused by excessive mileage, age, or damages. However, after being used as patrol vehicles many of these units are then transferred for use as administrative vehicles. The oldest/highest mileage vehicles are then retired and declared surplus. To obtain the greatest resale amount for the surplus vehicles, the Village will first register the vehicles with an online auction site run by the State of Illinois, called iBid. If inadequate or no bids are received through the online auction, staff will advertise for bids in the local newspaper. If no bids are received through the newspaper advertisement, the vehicles will be offered to local schools, churches and not - for -profit agencies. Any remaining vehicles will be disposed of properly for scrap or parts. Finally, it is important to note staff is in the final stages of a revised purchasing/life -cycle policy for Village vehicles. Staff anticipates presenting the policy in either August or early September. Recommendation: That the Village Board adopt the attached ordinance authorizing the sale of eight vehicles.
