G-982 - 09/25/2012 - TRAFFIC - Ordinances Supporting Documentsu
ITEM 9.A.2)
AGENDA ITEM
Regular Board of Trustees Meeting
of
September 25, 2012
SUBJECT: Forest Gate Road Traffic Regulations
FROM: James R. Kruger, Chief of Poli
BUDGET SOURCEBUDGET IMPACT: None
RECOMMENDED MOTION: Move to approve adding the west end of Forest Gate Road to
Title 7 (Motor Vehicles and Traffic), Chapter 2 (Traffic Schedules), Section 1, Schedule III:
Four Way Stop Intersections, and adding Forest Gate Road from Jorie Boulevard west to the
entrance of the Forest Gate subdivision to 7 -2 -1, Schedule X, No U -Turns Allowed.
Background/History:
Over the past summer, the Oak Brook Park District has improved their facility at 1450 Forest Gate Road.
These enhancements will serve the residents as well as have the desired effect of increased usage of their
facilities. All of the facilities are located at the end of Forest Gate Road with no other means of egress by
vehicle. Forest Gate Road has periods of increased traffic when the adjacent ball fields are in use that add
to the traffic that is already on the roadway to use the myriad of other park district amenities.
During the use of the baseball fields the lot to the north of Forest Gate Road is in full use as well as the
parking spots on the public roadway. Motorists frequently make U -turns in that area since there is no
other way out of the area. It has been noted by Forest Gate subdivision service providers that there are
several near misses due to U- turner's when the area is in full use.
Recommendation:
After a review of the area, it is recommended that the intersection of Forest Gate Road at the entrance to
the Forest Gate subdivision be changed from a 3 -way stop intersection to a 4 -way stop intersection. It is
also recommended that the length of Forest Gate Road from Jorie to that intersection be designated as a
No U -Turn area. The Police Department also recommends the parking lot be designated one way in and
out due to the left turn lane stacking area and the east drive being very close to the Jorie Boulevard
intersection. This request will be included in the Park District's request for a variation.
