Relaxation Through Meditation - Saturday, January 14 @ 2 pm Join Michael Ribet, long time meditator, as he discusses how meditation can evoke a deeper state of relaxation and more peace within. He will also present a powerful meditation technique that can enrich one’s life on all levels. The audience will have a chance to practice this simple meditation that can help in all aspects of life. Julia Child: My Life in France - Sunday, January 15 @ 2 pm Join storyteller Lynn Rymarz as she explores how Julia Child discovered her passion for cooking French food in her late thirties, after she married Paul Child and moved to Paris in 1948. Hear Julia’s own words as she describes her love of French food and how she became determined to learn how to cook it. Sponsored by the Friends of the Oak Brook Public Library. Sunday Chess Club - January 15 - February 26 @ 2-4 pm The Chess Club is open to players of ALL AGES who already have an understanding of the game. Players are welcome to join to improve their game and play. Each week will feature lessons, guided play, and a Swiss-style tournament. All equipment is provided. Tom Mikolyzk, a USCF Certified Chess coach, local tournament director and a retired teacher and administrator, will lead. He has taught chess since 1989 and has directed clubs and teams at Avery Coonley and DaVinci Academy. Tom also teaches privately, focusing on motivated younger players. Creating a Lasting Legacy - Saturday, January 28 @ 2 pm Lukasz Lebensztejn from Bott & Associates, a law firm specializing in elder care, probate and estate planning, will be discussing the pitfalls of not establishing a will or trust and how to avoid those pitfalls. He will also address the difference between traditional estate planning and legacy wealth planning, and why the latter is more beneficial. Recurring Programs Knit Pickers - Tuesdays @ 7 pm The Knit Pickers gather and work on their projects together. All levels of knitters are welcome. Teen Community Service Opportunities Looking for volunteer hours for applications? Sign up to assist with programs and take part in events. Please provide 24 hours notice if you can no longer volunteer. Dress appropriately to be able to bend and move. Call Youth Services for Registration, and for questions about each program or event. Children must be age 2 by January 1, 2017. Parents accompany child in this program. Storytime Art - Grades K-2 Tuesdays, Jan. 10, 17, 24 & 31@ 4:30 pm Are you nuts about books and crafts? Then join us for this creative storytime. We will read a story and then do a craft project inspired by the book. Saturday Stars Saturdays, January 14 & 21 @ 11 am Families are welcome to this fun-filled storytime. Stories and activities will be geared towards ages 2-6. Parents accompany children in this program. Space is limited. Registration is required. Winter Reading Club It’s that time of year. We’re in the mood to Chill Out and Read! The reading program runs from January 3 through March 4. We are encouraging participation from those who enjoy a good picture book, as well as those who are proficient readers. Sign up ASAP to take part in our celebration of reading! Teen Advisory Group (TAG) Monday, January 16 @ 6 pm TAG provides teens with the opportunity to have a voice in their library. We will discuss and plan future programs and work on ways to improve the library community. This leadership role also counts towards community service hours. Grades 6 & up. Registration is required.
