Titanic Survivor Violet Jessop Sunday, April 2 @ 2 pm Leslie Goddard, Ph.D., portrays Violet Jessop, a stewardess who survived the sinkings of the RMS Titanic and, several years later, the HMHS Britannic (the Titanic’s sister ship). She tells unforgettable stories of the tragedies and gives a fascinating glimpse at life behind-the-scenes on the most glamorous luxury liners of their day. Songs of the Civil War Saturday, April 8 @ 2 pm Dean Milano returns to showcase period songs of the Civil War as well as more recent works. Accompanied by his guitar, he gives a short history of each song and provides a slide show of period Civil War musicians. The audience is encouraged to sing along as many of the songs are well known favorites. Sponsored by the Friends of the Library. For the Love Birds Acrylic Paint Workshop Saturday, April 15 @ 2 pm Join Terri Murphy in the joy of painting as we paint our fine feathered friends in acrylics! In this workshop each participant will choose just a handful of colors to paint the bird of their choice as we concentrate on design and value. Prior painting experience is not necessary and beginners are encouraged to attend. Recurring Programs Knit Pickers - Tuesdays @ 7 pm The Knit Pickers gather and work on their projects together. The Used Book Sale will be held April 20 - 22. The sale offers thousands of books in excellent condition, including large selections of books on history, art, religion, current fiction and more. We also have hundreds of music CDs and movies on DVD. Used Book Sale Hours: Thursday, April 20 @ 10 am - 8 pm Admission is free all day for Friends members. A $5 admission fee ($10 with any electronic scanning device) for all other attendees from 10 am to 2 pm; admission is free from 2 to 8 pm. Friday, April 21 @ 9:30 am - 4:30 pm - free admission all day Saturday, April 22 @ 9:30 am - 3 pm - free admission all day New this year is a Members Appreciation Night. This Friends members-only preview sale on Wednesday, April 19 from 6:30 to 8 pm will also feature piano and harp music as well as wine, soft drinks and desserts. Volunteers are needed during the Used Book Sale. If you are able to work a 2-hour shift at any time during the sale, please add your name to the sign-up sheets located at the Circulation Desk. Books & Bites Book Discussion Thursday, April 27 @ 4:30 pm Mysterious Benedict Society We will meet once per month to discuss a good book while discovering fun facts about it and the author. Snacks will be provided! See the Circulation Desk for a copy of the book a few weeks before each session. Recommended for grades 4 & up. Make It Your Own By yourself or in a group, design a display for the Teen area at the Library! Create a theme, design the display and decide on the books to showcase. We will provide all the materials. Call or stop by the Youth Desk to schedule a date. This is a community service opportunity. Teen Community Service Opportunities Looking for volunteer hours for applications? Sign up to assist with programs and take part in events. April Storytimes Registration is required for all storytimes Toddling 2s & 3s Thursdays, Apr. 6, 13 & 20 @ 10:30 am Toddle on down to this fun and interactive storytime that includes marvelous books, flannel boards, music and a craft. Children must be age 2 by March 1, 2017. Parents must accompany child in this program. Storytime Art - Grades K-2 Tuesdays, Apr. 4, 11 & 18 @ 4:30 pm Are you nuts about books and crafts? Then join us for this creative storytime. We will read a story and then do a craft project inspired by the book. Saturday Stars Saturdays, April 8 & 22 @ 11 am Families are welcome to this fun-filled storytime. Stories and activities will be geared towards ages 2-6. Parents must accompany children in this program. Space is limited. Registration is required weekly. This ongoing program will help build your child’s vocabulary, print awareness, early literacy skills and more as you read 1000 books before they start their first day of Kindergarten. Teen Advisory Group (TAG) Monday, April 10 @ 6 pm TAG provides teens with the opportunity to have a voice in their library. We will discuss and plan future programs and work on ways to improve the library community. This leadership role also counts towards community service hours. Grades 6 & up. Registration is required. It is a club, not a team, so players are welcome to join us to improve their game and play. Each week will feature lessons, guided play and a Swiss-style tournament. All equipment is provided.
