Boards & Commissions Supporting Documents - 06/08/2010 - Board of TrusteesIT13M 10.13. AGENDAITEM Regular Board of Trustees Meeting of June 8, 2010 SUBJECT: Position Description Update FROM: Blaine Wing, Assistant Village Manger BUDGET SOURCE /BUDGET IMPACT: NA RECOMMENDED MOTIONS: Update only. No motion required. Background/History: Starting this spring, the Human Resource staff created a revised position description template for all of the Village's positions. This template will now become the basic format used for every position (full -time, part-time, seasonal, temporary, etc.), although each position will have very different essential duties and responsibilities. After the template was created, the next step was to have each department review their current position descriptions (some which are more than a decade old) with the individuals in the positions and to make adjustments to reflect the duties and tasks that are currently being completed. The process of reviewing the current position descriptions, updating the descriptions, and then placing the updated language into the new template has taken the past several months due to the reduction of 28 staff members, job re- assignments, job sharing, etc. As each department completed their revised position descriptions, they were forwarded to the Human Resources Coordinator for an initial review. I am happy to report as of last week, all of the Village's departments have submitted their position descriptions for HR to review. During the next 45 days the HR staff, which is composed of Eileen and 1, plan to review all of full -time position descriptions. Eileen and I will then review the part- time, seasonal and temporary position descriptions. Once completed, these position descriptions will be a valuable part of the compensation and salary study that the Village will be receiving proposals later this summer. Finally, the Village's generic position description template, which was created by HR and reviewed by IRMA, is attached.
