HomeMy WebLinkAboutVolume 31 - 2015We’ve got some groovin’ on a Sunday afternoon
planned for Sunday, May 3, at 3:00 p.m. in
the Friends Meeting Room at the Library.
Our Spring Evergreen Concert will feature
SHiNDiG!, one of the premier tribute bands
in the Chicagoland area. Featuring “true to
the originals” vocals and instrumentation, the
band delivers a highly entertaining musical
and visual trip through the 60s by performing
top hits from more than 90 different bands
of that great decade of popular music. The
five members of the band include Sharman
Strode (keyboard and vocals), Tom Rychter
(guitar and vocals), Tom Benson (guitar and
vocals), John Murphy (bass guitar and vocals),
and Mark Lega (drums and vocals). All are
seasoned musicians with a true passion for
the music they perform and for bringing
the 60s back to life on stage. SHiNDiG! has
performed at area festivals, community and
private events, casinos, clubs, and restaurants.
Their performance will feature songs by The
Beatles, The Beach Boys, The Monkees, The
Rolling Stones, Sonny and Cher, The Supremes,
and many more groups that were popular in
the 60s.
The Concert is free to the public, and no
reservations are required. Following the
performance, one
lucky attendee will
receive a free CD,
and refreshments
will be served for all
to enjoy. For more
information, please

Please check out the
Library’s website
(www.oak-brook.org/library)
or pick up a copy of the
Library Beacon at the

upcoming Library programs.
We need several volunteers to work as
cashiers and to straighten up the book tables
during our Sale April 16-18. Volunteers
usually work 2-hour shifts during the 3-day
Sale. Our Used Book Sale is a great way to
meet members of our community and to
support the Library. If you would like to
volunteer to help with the Sale, please sign up
at the Library Circulation Desk.

Seeking New
Friends Directors
Our Fall Evergreen Concert will feature the
Chicago-based chamber ensemble Spektral
Quartet performing classical works by Beethoven,
Schubert, John Cage, and Arvo Pärt at 3:00 p.m. on
Sunday, October 25, in the Friends Meeting Room
at the Library. The ensemble consists of Clara Lyon
on violin, J. Austin Wulliman on violin, Doyle
Armbrust on viola, and Russell Rolen on cello.
Founded in 2010, the Spektral Quartet is regarded
as one of Chicago’s most forward-thinking
chamber ensembles, with programs containing
a mix of musical styles, spanning centuries. The
Quartet has received broad critical acclaim for
its rousing works and innovative programs. The
Quartet serves as ensemble-in-residence at the
University of Chicago. During its 2013/2014
season, the Quartet recorded ringtone-length
pieces by forty composers from across the United
States for its Mobile Miniatures project; these
pieces are available to the public for download
to mobile devices. The Quartet also released its
first two full-length albums during the 2013/2014
season. Chambers highlights the work of living,
Chicago-based composers, and From This Point
Forward has a South American theme and features
accordion virtuoso Julien Labro.
For its 2014/2015 season, the Spektral Quartet
unveiled its four largest-scale commissions to date,
and this season, the Quartet has further expanded
its appearances into intimate venues such as
Curtiss Hall at the Fine Arts Building and Mana
Contemporary in the Pilsen neighborhood.
The Concert is free to the public, and no
reservations are required. Following the
performance, one lucky attendee will receive
a free CD, and
refreshments will
be served for all to
enjoy. For more
information, please
