Boards & Commissions Supporting Documents - 12/05/2002 - Hotel Convention and Visitors CommitteeVILLAGE OF OAK BROOK
Interoffice Memorandum
DATE: November 27, 2002
TO: Oak Brook Hotel, Convention and Visitors Committee
FROM: Michael A. Crotty, Acting Village Manager
SUBJECT: Use of Hotel Tax Receipts for Independence Day Celebration
Recently, the Village Board discussed the question of using hotel tax receipts to offset the cost of the
Village's annual Independence Day celebration (the total cost of the event is budgeted to be $75,000 in
2003). As it had when this question came up concerning beautification, the Board indicated its interest
in obtaining the opinion of the Hotel, Convention and Visitors Committee as to whether or not
supporting the Independence Day celebration would be considered an acceptable use of these funds
(i.e. serve to promote overnight stays in the Village of Oak Brook). As such, I am placing this question
on the Agenda for the December 5, 2002 regular meeting of the Hotel, Convention and Visitors
Committee.
