Illinois Watercolor Society Artist Demonstration
Saturday, August 5 @ 10 am
Join us for a painting demonstration by Bill Bartelt and an educational lecture on
all things watercolor. From the energy of the great American city to the romance
of the Italian hill towns, Bartelt’s watercolors showcase his unique perspective.
Indian Cooking - Wednesday, August 9 @ 7 pm
Come taste and smell the spices as Indrani Hausner of Monbool demonstrates
Indian cooking techniques and recipes. She will make vegetarian and non -
vegetarian options using in-season ingredients providing an opportunity to taste
the results. Sponsored by the Friends of the Library.
Pirates and Punishment: An Appreciation of Hugo Grotius
Monday, August 14 @ 7 pm
Oak Brook Trustee and attorney Edward N. Tiesenga, with Hinsdale Central
student Chuqi Zheng, delivers a multimedia presentation that traces the
foundations of the Law of Nations to 16th Century Dutch lawyer Hugo Grotius
and the contest for the maritime trade of the Far East. The story will conclude
with the 2009 pirate attack on the U.S.-flagged Maersk Alabama, portrayed in
the movie Captain Phillips, and the prosecution of the lone surviving pirate,
Captain Muse, using laws based on the 400 -year-old work of Grotius.
Collage Workshop: The Power of Right-Brain Knowing
Tuesday, August 15 @ 7 pm
Finding balance in this fast-paced world requires mindful reflection and a good
amount of creative expression. Join us for this educational and hands -on
program by art therapist Terri Gregory. Terri creates art, leads art workshops for
adults and teaches art to children. Sponsored by the Friends of the Library.
Total Eclipse 2017 - Monday, August 21 @ 10:45 am
Join us to view the progress of the solar eclipse across the United States on the
big screen in our meeting room. NASA will be filming a 4-hour and 30-minute
live webcast of the eclipse, including scientific demonstrations and interviews
with leading experts. Feel free to pop in and out as you please, or pick up a pair
of eclipse glasses ($1 while supplies last) and have a look for yourself!

Eclipse Glasses at the Library
Be prepared for the total solar eclipse happening on August 21!
The Library is selling eclipse-viewing glasses for $1 (while supplies
last) which will allow you to see this rare sight safely. We’ll also be
live-streaming the event on the big screen in our meeting room
starting at 10:45 am as viewed from the
proverbial best seat in the house, Southern
Illinois University’s Saluki Stadium. Whichever
way you choose to enjoy it, don’t miss out on
this singular event!
Paintings for Sale
Oak Brook resident and artist Lyn Tietz
has graciously offered to sell a number of
her paintings and give all proceeds to the
Library. Please stop by and see Lyn’s
beautiful works hanging in the Reference
area.

OneClickdigital and Zinio for Libraries have merged!
So what does this mean to you? There is one app combining
e-Audiobooks and e-Magazines. Existing users can still login as
they have been since usernames and passwords remain the same.
New users will need to register.

Families are welcome to this fun-filled
storytime. Stories and activities will be geared
towards ages 2-6. Parents accompany children
in this program. Registration required.
Make It Your Own
By yourself or with a group of friends, create a
display for the YA area. You will earn community
service hours for the time you spend creating the
display. Contact the Youth Services desk to
arrange a time! Entering Grades 6 & Up
Summer Reading Program
The Summer Reading Program ends on Saturday, August 5.
Bring your reading logs in as soon as possible! Those who
have completed the program will be entered into our Grand
