Toddling 2s & 3s Thursdays @ 10:30 am - Jan. 14, 21 & 28 Your two or three year old will surely enjoy this interactive storytime that includes marvelous books, flannel boards, music, and a simple craft. Children must be age 2 by January 1, 2016. Parents must accompany their child at this program. Fantastic 4s & 5s Tuesdays @ 4:30 pm - Jan. 12, 19 & 26 We will wiggle and giggle in this fun-filled storytime. Activities, crafts, music, and lively stories strengthen early reading skills. Children must be age 4 by January 1, 2016. Storytime Art - Grades K-2 Wednesdays @ 4:30 pm - Jan. 13, 20 & 27 Are you nuts about books and art? Then join us for this creative story time. We will read a story and then do an art project inspired by the book. Youth Book Discussion Thursday, January 28 @ 4:30 pm Greenglass House by Kate Milford Do you like reading a good book and then sharing it with others? Not only will we talk about the stories and characters, but we will also discover fun facts about each book as well as the authors. Snacks will be provided. Thursday, January 14 @ 2-4 pm - Computer Help A one-on-one, 30 minute computer session, is being offered to patrons for answering basic computer-related questions from searching the Web to posting a resume online. Registration is required. Monday, January 18 @ 11 am - Intro to MS Word 2010 Participants will learn to open and shut down MS Word, use basic commands, change the “look” or format of the document, edit text, use spell check, and print. Monday, January 25 @ 11 am - Intro to MS Excel 2010 This class will introduce the Excel spreadsheet. Areas covered will be the everyday commands found on the Ribbon; create a new workbook, save workbooks, insert and delete column and rows and enter text and numbers. 1000 Books Before Kindergarten Sign up your newborn, infant, or toddler for our 1000 Books Before Kindergarten program. This ongoing program will help build your child’s vocabulary, print awareness, early literacy skills and more as you read 1000 books before they start their first day of Kindergarten. Stop by the Youth Services desk today to sign up. Your child will get prizes along the way to celebrate as you read! Maker Madness: Make Your Own Soap Saturday, January 9 @ 1pm Ages 5 & Up Come be a part of this maker's workshop where you have the opportunity to make soap...all by yourself! We will be showing students in the class how to produce, color, and shape your very own bar soap. Each bar of soap will contain a special creature inside. Please join us for this for this unique workshop experience. Registration is required. Traveling World of Reptiles Saturday, January 23 @ 1 pm All Ages! Join us for an up-close, live, and extremely “hands-on” experience as you learn about reptiles and amphibians from around the world. Dave DiNaso provides an enjoyable experience for all ages! Registration is required. Sponsored by the Friends. Adult Winter Reading Club The Adult Services staff invites our patrons to take part in our Winter Reading Program: New Year, New Reads. When we welcome the new year, break the mold and challenge yourself to read not only more books, but different types of books. From fiction to nonfiction, romance to mystery, pick up an author, genre, or format that you've never read before from our collection. All who participate will receive a reading incentive and be entered into a drawing. Sponsored by the Friends. Youth Winter Reading Club Watch out! The winter forecast is predicting A Blizzard of Books! The reading program runs through March 5. Holiday Lights Recycling until January 8, 2016 As you take down your holiday lights, please remember that you have until January 8 to recycle them at the Library. Look for the bin in the staff parking lot (across from the book returns). Any holiday lights will be accepted by Elgin Recycling (www.elginrecycling.com). And since the box is outside, you can donate at any time that is convenient for you. Lego® League Thursday, January 14 @ 6:30 - 7:30 pm Ages 4 & up Help us kick off our new Lego Building Club. Each month we will let our creativity run wild and incorporate STEM skills into our builds. There will be Lego building books available to help spark ideas. Groups of 1-4 people. Registration is required. Introducing Automatic Renewals Starting in January, checked out items eligible for renewal will be renewed automatically two days before they are due. This will allow you to enjoy your items longer and avoid costly late fees. If you have signed up for email notification a courtesy notice will let you know what items were not renewed. Signing up for email notification is the best way to track your due dates. Remember it is still your responsibility to track your due dates and what items are eligible for renewal.
