Classical Concert: Gina Fiore - Saturday, April 2 @ 2 pm
Gina Fiore received first place honors for her talent competition at Northern Illinois University,
and has a Performance Degree in Violin and Piano. Join her for an afternoon of classical
tunes. Sponsored by the Friends of the Oak Brook Library.
Classical Concert: Stellio Trio - Sunday, April 10 @ 3 pm
Three award-winning musicians, violinist Yoorhi Choi, cellist Sungchan Chang, and
pianist Hyejin Joo will be performing Beethoven’s Violin Sonata No. 5, op. 24 “Spring,”
Schubert’s Impromptus op.142 No. 3 in B flat major, and Chopin’s Introduction et
Polonaise Brillante, op. 3.
Downton Abbey: The Real Lady Catherine - Sat., April 16 @ 1 pm
Lynn Rymarz shares the story of Lady Catherine, Countess of Carnarvon. Hear the fascinating
true story of how Catherine Wendell made a life for herself and her family living in Highclere Castle,
the real home of Downton Abbey. Sponsored by the Friends of the Oak Brook Library.
A Matter of the Heart - Sunday, April 17 @ 2 pm
Oak Brook resident and former Director of Cardiology at Hines VA Hospital Robert J.
Hariman, MD will address current advances in cardiology, as well as outline strategies to
treat common cardiac conditions, and how to look for help when cardiac disease strikes.
Noted
cardiologist and Oak Brook Village President Gopal Lalmalani will be on hand to answer questions.
How Is Reading from Electronic Devices Affecting Our Brains?
Wednesday, April 27 @ 7 pm
Is reading text from a screen the same as reading from paper? This presentation
will share current research that shows reading print on paper affects brain
development, eye movement, behavior, and learning outcomes differently than
reading from screens. If you have a mobile device, please bring it to this event.

Silent Auction
The Friends of the Library Spring Book Auction continues
until noon on Saturday, April 23. Auction items will be on
display in the Library lobby and listed on the Friends’ page of
the Library’s website. Bids must be made in person at the
Library. The website will be updated weekly with current bids
on all items. Stop by and take a look at all the great titles
available!
Gift Books Donated to Oak Brook
Library in the month of March
The Library has donated The Promise, After She’s Gone, No
Shred of Evidence, No Cure for Love and The Steel Kiss in memory of Library
Commissioner and avid reader Jeffry Franklin.
The Library Commission donated When Falcons Fall, The Waters of Eternal
Youth, At the Edge of the Orchard, Crazy Blood and Deep Blue in memory of
Library Commissioner Jeffry Franklin.

A one-on-one, 30 minute computer session is being offered to
answer basic computer-related questions from searching the Web
to posting a resume online. Call to schedule your session.
Thursday, April 28 @ 2 pm - Computer Tips and Tools
This class will give you practical computer tips. Topics include:
printing, highlighting to copy and paste, volume control, search
engines and mouse skills.
Local Recycling Information
The Library will not be hosting a Recycling
Extravaganza this year - but don’t worry, we are
still here to help! We have created a brochure
detailing where you can take your recyclables for
proper disposal. Pick up your copy today at the
Circulation Desk. Still have more questions? The
Reference staff is always available to answer your questions.
Talking Books - Downloadables
The Illinois Talking Book Outreach Center
provides services for people unable to read
regular print due to visual or physical
disabilities or a reading disability. The
service is tax-supported and is offered for no
additional cost to those who qualify.
In addition to book cartridges used with the
talking book
machine, digital audio and braille materials are available for
download from the online Braille and Audio Reading Download
(BARD) catalog. BARD books can be downloaded to a
computer or an Android or iOS device. These free apps allow
patrons to create a personal, portable library on their
smartphones or tablets. Patrons may also download books to a
flash drive for use with the talking book machine.

our 20th annual Used Book Sale:
Thursday April 21 @ 12 pm – 8 pm
$5.00 charge per person from 12 pm – 4 pm
$10.00 charge if using electronic scanner
Free from 4 - 8 pm
Free all day to Friends of the Library members
Friday April 22 @ 9:30 am – 4:30 pm
Saturday April 23 @ 9:30 am – 3 pm
There will be thousands of books available at very
affordable prices: amazing children’s books, mysteries,
novels, cookbooks, self-help, art, travel, histories,
biographies, as well as CDs, DVDs and audiobooks.
Cash and checks will be accepted.
Thank you to the many members of our community who
donated items for the Used Book Sale and the volunteers
who help make it a success.
Spring Evergreen Concert

A quintet from Bella Voce,
Chicago’s premier professional
chamber choir, will perform a
diverse repertoire of classic choral
chamber music.
The Evergreen Concert is free to

1000 Books Before Kindergarten
Sign up your newborn, infant, or toddler for our 1000
Books Before Kindergarten program. This ongoing

and more as you read 1000 books
before they start their first day of
