Please call 630-368-7725. Cuba: Vistas y Sonidos / Sights and Sounds Wednesday, May 4 @ 2 pm Mary Ann Nuñez, a Friends of the Library Board Member, will discuss her recent travels to Cuba. She will take all attendees on a tour of the cultural institutions and share her interpersonal meetings with Cubans in all levels of society. Medicare 101 - Thursday, May 5 @ 7 pm Medicare can be confusing. David Wylly of the Medicare Solutions Network will be presenting this educational seminar to get you up to speed on what Medicare covers, what it doesn’t, and your potential out of pocket exposure. Sentimental Journey Concert - Sunday, May 22 @ 2 pm Sentimental Journey features the vocals of Nora Drysch performing standards ranging from the 30s to the early 60s. This one-hour musical excursion to the past includes more than a dozen vocal numbers interspersed with musically- related trivia questions as well as a free door prize raffle. American Doughboys in the First World War - Sat., May 28 @ 2 pm Robert Mueller will be addressing America’s participation in "the war to end all wars." Take a trip across the battlefields of Northern France to learn of the events, people and places that contributed to the defeat of the German Kaiser. Famous engagements such as Belleau Wood, Cantigny, Saint-Mihiel and Meuse-Argonne are reviewed with images of what the battlefields look like today. The Evergreen Concert is free to the public and no reservations are required. Following the performance refreshments will be served for all to enjoy. Fullersburg Historic Foundation invites you to attend Illinois and Michigan Canal and Its People presented by Jim Carr of the Canalers on Saturday, May 14 at 1:30 pm. Mr. Carr will explain the importance of the Illinois and Michigan Canal. The canal’s first boat passage of settlers was in 1848, but the canal was not completed until 1860. A DVD of first person nar- ratives will be shown. Mr. Carr will be dressed in canal garb. Adults and children are welcome to this free presentation. Refreshments will be served. This year, summer programs are Reading for the Win! as we build up momentum to Let the Games Begin! In anticipation for the approaching 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio we are focusing on games of all sorts, all summer long. Sign-up for Summer Reading begins June 1. Those who participate in Summer Reading will earn prizes along the way for their time reading and take part in building our own Olympic Rings in the Youth Services area. Along with Summer Reading, Youth Services will have a variety of programs throughout the summer, including storytimes, Lego League, Read to a Cat & a Dog, Summer Bingo and much more. When Summer Reading hits the finish line August 5, Youth Services will host an after-hours, Let the Games Begin, end of Summer Reading party! Get your warm-ups on, the clock is counting down! Design a Bookmark! Contest Theme: Read for the Win! May 1 - 21 Let your creativity flow and help us kick off summer reading!
