Meditation for a Stress-free Holiday and Beyond Saturday, December 2 @ 2 pm Join long-time meditator Michael Ribet as he discusses meditation’s extraordinary ability to reduce stress-related responses, improve concentration and enhance clarity of thought. He will also present a simple yet powerful meditation technique that can enrich one’s life personally, professionally and spiritually. The Essential Christmas Carol Sunday, December 17 @ 2 pm In this storytelling program, William Pack will perform a reading of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol enhanced with a modern recreation of a magic lantern slide show popular during Dickens’ lifetime. Library staff will be on hand all day to answer questions, provide gift wrapping and present a storytime at 11 am. Use this voucher or mention the Library at checkout and we will receive a percentage of your purchase. Hey Kids! Stop by the Library starting December 1 and get a voucher for a free goodie bag to be picked up at Barnes & Noble on December 9. Quantities limited. Snow Globe Art Contest Create your very own snow globe scene. All entries will be displayed at Barnes and Noble during the Library’s Book Fair Fundraiser. All ages welcome to participate.  Paper snow globes pick up at Library: begins Saturday, November 18  Entries due at Library: Friday, December 1  Voting at Barnes & Noble: Saturday, December 9 during the fundraiser. Oak Brook Art League The Oak Brook Art League is excited to present an ongoing exhibit of paintings done by member artists. The paintings are in the Library’s Meeting Room and will be rotated to provide ongoing enjoyment. The Art League will be hosting a reception on December 5 at 7 pm to unveil the works. Please join the artists, admire their work, and enjoy light refreshments. Friends’ Silent Book Auction through December 9 Early holiday shopping alert! The 2017 Holiday Silent Book Auction will commence on October 30 and run through December 9. Available items will be on display in the Library’s lobby. There is an interesting variety for sale: art books, CDs, DVDs, Great Courses, cookbooks and a lot more. Check out the display cases next time you are in the Library, make a selection and place a bid! Help your Library and find a meaningful gift for someone on your list or yourself. Your purchases help fund Library programs. New App! Libby, by OverDrive Explore a new way to access e-books and e-audiobooks with Libby, the future mobile experience from OverDrive. The app is now available for iOS, Android and MS Windows 10. Storytime with Miss Theresa Join Miss Theresa at Barnes & Noble for a 30 minute storytime at 11 am. Be entertained by stories of snow! Drift on over, no registration required. Holiday Lights Recycling November 27 - January 15 Have you started decorating for the holidays? As you go through those strings of lights, you are bound to find some that don't work anymore. You can again recycle those lights at the Library! Look for the bin in the staff parking lot (across from the book returns). Any holiday lights will be accepted by Elgin Recycling (www.elginrecycling.com). And since the box is outside, you can donate at any time that is convenient for you. Books & Bites Book Discussion Thursday, December 21 @ 4:30 pm Because of Mr. Terupt by Rob Buyea We meet once per month to discuss a good book while discovering fun facts about it and the author. Snacks will be provided! See the Circulation Desk for a copy of the book a few weeks before each session. Recommended for grades 4 & up. Life Size Candyland Tuesday, January 2 @ 1-2 pm Back by popular demand, we are creating our own life-sized game of Candyland! Players themselves will be the ones moving throughout the game board, hopping to HOME SWEET HOME first! But don’t be fooled, those who get stuck throughout the game may get some rewards of their own.
