Minutes - 02/10/2000 - Autumn Festival CommitteeAUTUMN FESTIVAL Committee
Minutes of February 10, 2000
MEETING CALL: The meeting began at 7:00 p.m.
ROLL CALL: PRESENT: Joyce Antoniolli, Doreen Barrett, Connie Craig, Nuha Dabbouseh,
Ralph Maxson, Joan Philip, Bonnie Sartore
ABSENT: Adam and Michelle Butler, Marci Hanzlik, Carolyn Link, Jan Lundquist, Nelli Naguib, Barb
Nasharr, Susan Santefort, Denise Tennison
ALSO PRESENT: Linda Lojewski
3. MINUTES from the meeting of January 13, 2000 were approved as written.
4. DISCUSSION started with the suggestion of replacing two committee members. Bonnie suggested a
couple of people that she felt would work well and contribute to the committee. Those present agreed
with her suggestions. She will follow up and report back at the next meeting.
5. FOLLOWING DISCUSSION on the good reception of the crafter segment of last year's event, the
committee agreed to place ads seeking crafters in mid -April or May. Linda will watch the papers for ads
so that we can refine our ad and specifications to attract more people for this year's event.
6. INTERESTED MUSICIANS have sent tapes and demo discs to the Sports Core, looking for an
opportunity to perform. Doreen and Ralph will review the demos and see if there is anything that might
be a good addition. Bonnie also asked that while they listen to the tapes, Ralph and Doreen keep in
mind other Village functions, such as the Independence Day Celebration, that would be a possibility for
some of the "hopefuls ".
7. OTHER ENTERTAINMENT suggestions were made by several members. Joyce noted that she had
attended a family fair at Christ Church and found some nice variations on the Moon Walk and other
games. She will attempt to get the name of the vendor so that we can compare some prices and
offerings from their company. Bonnie mentioned she was aware of a Steam Train at the Lombard
winter fest and Linda will follow up to see about that. Connie noted that Comedy Capers in Naperville
has different characters to add to the roving entertainment if we were not able to get a McDonald's or Ty
person. As a change, it was suggested that instead of pony rides, we investigate getting a horse drawn
wagon, possibly Clydesdales, to give both children and adults rides.
8. SOLICITATION LETTERS were reviewed and discussed. It was decided that two letters should be
formulated. One letter would be to solicit donations toward the day's expenses — donors could
underwrite a specific event or performer, etc. The other letter would be to solicit gifts or donations
towards the raffle and door prizes. Both letters will explain a little more about the event so that donors
would be better informed about what to expect. Joan will ask Jan for some input.
9. PRESS RELEASES will be updated and submitted to the newspapers. Bonnie noted that several
papers have already called regarding summer events as they prepare their special sections on summer
festivals and activities.
10. NEXT MEETING of the Autumn Festival Committee will be on March 9, 2000.
11. ADJOURNMENT: 8:00 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Linda Lojewski
