4 BOARD MEMBERS: Bonnie announced that all of the members from the 1998 committee
have chosen to remain on the committee for another year.
5 EVENT NANVIE: FOLLOWING discussion, the consensus was to name this year's event a
Brook Autumn Fest and it will be held on Sunday, September 19, 1999. It was agreed
that
new logo should be developed, keeping it a simple fall theme (mums, scarecrows, and the
like).
6,
THE GOALS and FOCUS of this year's day were discussed at length. The committee on from
that they would lelce to see scaled down expectations femn vendors, more participate
volunteers and more services and items donated to keep the costs lower. Emphasis will be on
broadening the focus and scaling down the expenses. Bonnie suggested that perhaps one of
the areas of costs to consider would be in the parking se ice - perhaps staff would be able to
handle it on the fields, rather than hiring a parking service. Consideration of costs is
especially pertinent as the Park District has eliminated the Ethnic Fest contribution from their
budget. In fact, they did so for the 1998 event, but did not inform the committee. Thus, t
contribution of $5,000 was not received. Bonnie noted that one vendor has already
committed to sending a check for $1,000 to help cover this loss of revenue. lower. ue. By mg one

will have schedules of "happenings" and events available for distribution on event day. We
will also develop a better map for distribution showing the location and time of all events for

7 PARTICIPANT CO S have started to come in. Elmhurst College Jazz Band
will again perform at the Saturday night party. The organizers of the Highland Games has
agreed to send a couple of bagpipers or something
else we could use for the day. The

the children's groups again this year.
8. SUGGESTIONS AND IDEAS for the day's activities included the following: a fine arts d
display (possibly with Mrs. Caleel, Mrs. Gengler, or other local artists); an Embroidery
display to highlight its craft; a puppet show, face painting, pumpkin painting, a hay wagon
ride, a cake walk and petting zoo.
9 pUBLICITY will include sending postcards to all residents listing all events; flyers to be
distributed at the local schools, posters for the schools, l brary, Village Hall, and signs for Oak
Brook Road. It was suggested that the Village invest in some sandwich board type signs that
could be used for events on the Sports Core (Oak Brook Day, Highland Games, weddings,
etc.) The sign would be designed to have interchangeable boards showing the event name Tennis Club
and time and would be put out the day of an event at the entrance to the
as well as at York and 31' Street and 31' Street and Jorie Blvd. Bonnie will investigate the
possibilities. The March/April Civic Association Newsletter will include a Save the Date"
