Minutes - 03/08/2002 - Autumn Festival CommitteeAUTUMN FESTIVAL Committee
Minutes of March 8, 2002
MEETING CALL: The meeting was called to order at 7:05 p.m.
2. ROLL CALL: PRESENT, Mariette Adrian, Joyce Antoniolli, Connie Craig, Ralph Maxson,
Bonnie Sartore
ABSENT: Nuha Dabbouseh, Carolyn Link, Jan Lundquist, Nelly Naguib, Barb Nasharr, Joan Philip,
Tom Truedson.
3. APPROVED: NEWUTES of the November 8, 2001 meeting.
4. SPONSORSHIPS: Bonnie informed the committee that the Private Bank has expressed an interest in
again participating as a sponsor for this year's Autumn Fest. She also suggested the committee offer
Barb Nasharr the opportunity to sponsor the Pet Parade at a discounted rate. Since 2001 was the first
time for the Pet Parade, the committee felt it was a learning experience and could be improved upon
this year. Suggestions were to make it a longer route, and/or to have a theme. It was previously
suggested that the parade be led by a clown or perhaps a small band.
5. COMMITTEE MEMBERS: Discussion was held regarding filling vacancies on the committee. The
group agreed it would be nice to find some interested male residents. There is a need for a
representative who lives in the Downers Grove school district. Mariette offered to make the vacancies
known at the P.T.A. meetings and other committee members agreed to seek additional volunteers.
6. PREVIEW PARTY: The suggestion was made to seat committee members in the pre - function room
and reserve the main dining room for other guests. Bonnie mentioned a village dinner that used round
tables as opposed to long banquet ones and it was agreed that would be a nice set -up for this year's fest.
POLITICAL CANDIDATES: Because it is an election year, the committee anticipates requests from
many of the candidates to participate. The committee decided that if candidates wanted to participate,
they would be charged for space and that we would discourage candidates and their supporters from
walking around handing out literature. Ralph agreed to investigate how it is controlled at Elmhurst's
Elmfest. Bonnie will contact candidates explaining our policies and giving them a chance to sponsor
an activity. It was suggested that the Village Clerk or someone from the York Township offices might
like to set up a Voter's Registration booth. Ralph suggested we again hire the West Suburban Band
and ask them to do their patriotic program.
OTHER SUGGESTIONS: The library is now open and Ruth Martin has expressed an interest in
doing something. Bonnie will investigate the cost of using a trolley to transport attendees to the library
from the Sports Core to listen to a folksinger, story teller, etc. Mariette stated that a rock climbing wall
will part of the Brook Forest Exploremore Day this year and she volunteered to get some information
on it for the next meeting. Bonnie told of a canine training drill last summer that was held on the Sports
Core and agreed to investigate the possibility of them putting on an exhibition as well.
MEETING DATE CHANGE: The next meeting will be on Wednesday, April 17, at 7:00 p.m.
10. ADJOURNMENT: 8:15 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Linda Lojewski
